TheBBChas been accused of 'shocking' breaches of impartiality by a senior whistleblower.
Michael Prescott, who spent three years as an independent external adviser to the broadcaster's Editorial Guidelines and Standards Committee (EGSC) before leaving the role in June, sent a damning internal dossier to the BBC Board last month after repeated warnings to the standards watchdog were 'dismissed or ignored'.
In the memo, which was obtained by The Telegraph, Prescott details how the corporation 'doctored' a speech by Donald Trump to make it appear like he had encouraged the Capitol Hill riots during an episode of Panorama.
The 'mangled' excerpt 'completely misled' viewers, when it was broadcast in October 2024, by showing the president telling supporters he was going to walk to the Capitol with them to 'fight like hell', when he actually said he would walk with them 'to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard'.
The report said the programme made the US president 'say' things [he] never actually said' by editing together footage from the start of his speech with something he said nearly an hour later.
When the Panorama 'distortion' was raised with BBC managers, they 'refused to accept there had been a breach of standards'.
This is pretty disgusting by the BBC. Whether this is Trump or Starmer or anyone, to manipulate in an effort to fool the public is just not on

About time the BBC was scrapped.
I’ve just read the licence fee is going up to £180 - they’re taking the pee.

The BBC has done this to others. I hope Trump sues the arse off them. Such a biased, lying company.
They do this all the time, should be cancelled!

@ Diggs…I‘m not about to try any ‘Yes, but what about…’. Fact is, that type of partisan, skewed reporting is not good. Irrespective of who it favours - it’s never good.
But whether it’s mainstream news channels or the supposedly ‘free press’, reporting the news truthfully, impartially and with integrity, is all rapidly becoming a thing of the past.

It’s okay, Mags. If it’s a day that ends in the letter ‘y’, it’s odds-on trump will be suing somebody

i hope he does sue them. It's bloody disgusting. The only thing we have to rely on is honest news reporting. It's going the drain at a rate of knots.

Sadly, the Beeb are not alone in selective editing/splicing reality.
FOX News in the US are notorious for it. Which is why they had to pay $787million in damages to Dominion Voting Systems (a voting machine company), for perpetuating trump’s lies about the 2020 election being stolen from him.
FOX, Newsmax, OANN, and many other news channels are all at it. Funnily enough, trump has never sued any of them.
In his quest to have the truth reported as whatever he wants the truth to be, his administration are gradually denying access to the few professional journalists who are still around these days. He doesn’t want professional journalists; he wants glorified stenographers.

@ MD…..do all the pay-for-play gazillionaires that surround him need all the extra tax breaks/perks/concessions they get? In a way, many of them could arguably be viewed as government welfare moochers too.
Mostly though, I’m repulsed by the timing of his recent excesses, like the refurbs at the White House and the event he had last night. He knew damn well it would be all over social media - today of all days.
He’s a psychotic sadist, who gets a geriatric stiffy out of spitefully trolling the people he’s supposed to be serving.

The typical SNAP recipient is white, Republican, and rural. The Bible Belt is a solid mass of SNAP benefits.
The US towns with the highest rates of food stamp use are:
McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, Texas:30.5% of households
Laredo, Texas: 28.0% of households
Las Cruces, New Mexico: 26.4% of households
Yakima, Washington: 24.2% of households
Albany, Georgia: 24.1% of households
Brownsville-Harlingen, Texas: 22.8% of households
Hammond, Louisiana: 22.7% of households

I don't why anyone would be surprised that the majority of SNAP recipients are white.
We are still a predominantly white country.
That said, none of the cities mentioned in Texas, NM or any part of the south are predominantly white..
Here's one thing I do know. Illegal immigrants do not get SNAP
benefits yet they somehow feed their kids.
I think it's because they also own some work boots..
Unlike many of the people who were born here. 😉

NY has a new muslim mayor - Zohran Mamdani. I hope he does a better job than the one we have in London.
He seems a bit of a showman (an ex-rapper) and is already playing to the cameras and bad mouthing Trump.
He's a Pro-Palestinian supporter and has introduced a bill to end tax exemption for NY based charities that have ties to Israel. He also says that Israel is commiting genocide in Gaza.
He seems like an opinionated loudmouth to me - and I don't think I would be too thrilled this morning if I were a New Yorker, especially a Jewish one.

He ran a pretty smart campaign and pulled in an impressive number of the 18-29 demographic. His lack of qualifying experience is a legitimate concern, though.
I’ve never warmed to him, Red. I can never trust anyone who seems to have a permanent smug smile on their face like he does I hope he proves me wrong, and doesn’t turn out to be completely ineffectual or much beyond a shiny new talking point.

Apparently he's quite social media savvy - which appeals to the younger age group.
Politics have become quite binary now and things like Trump v anyone but Trump or Palestine v Israel affect more votes than the traditional issues that politicians usually campaign with - taxes, housing, schools, transport etc.
I don't like the look of him either - he seems far too gobby, and the pro Palestinian stuff is very off-putting.
