I would be interested to know in people's thoughts about whether anything exists when we pass away.
Whether it be the traditional Heaven or Hell spoken of in organised religion or some kind of spiritual realm we can't even imagine yet. A popular opinion is Earth is so small and insignificant in comparison to the Universe there must be something there, no matter how unique the form.
Do posters believe there is some sort of purgatory for people who are evil and has anyone experienced something they can't quite explain?

Yes I do. Based on a convergence of different things NDE's, OBE's Deathbed visions, crisis apparitions etc
Not all mediums are frauds, many might be, or believe they have a gift they don't, but some I think have genuine abilities at least of ESP.
What an afterlife is like I'm not sure of.

As for Mediums although the few who do not make money from the practice may truly believe that they are in contact with the dead most are charlatans who use many well known techniques to wheedle as much money as possible from their victims.

There is the possibility that belief in an afterlife may be an evolutionary adaptation to prevent despair, a side affect of other advanced cognitive developments, a means of co-operation within larger social groups or a combination of all three.
Plus it is literally impossible for a living being to truly conceive the state of not being alive.
It is a fascinating topic and I also echo the sentiments of those above, as long as people don't try to force what they believe on others were is the harm?
Unfortunately organised religion in most forms has been spectacularly bad at refraining from doing just that throughout history.

I've had countless experiences that I can't explain, but I'm also intelligent enough to understand the views of those who haven't. Sometimes, you just have to go with what you know. If you don't, or can't, believe in an afterlife, spirit, God etc....nobody has the right to ridicule or attack you for that as it's your reality as you perceive it. By the same score, just because you have experienced something supernatural doesn't mean you should be ridiculed or pilloried for it.
There are more charlatans out there, that's for sure. And there are no 'powers'. That's a myth perpetuated by the charlatans. You either open yourself up to what is possible, embrace it and work with it, or you don't.

This is something I've cogitated over since I was old enough to understand the stuff I've experienced. It's a perfectly feasible explanation...and I do think it's something inherent in us. And if it weren't for what I've been through and experienced personally, I'd say it was THE only explanation. But I can't. I've seen stuff that defies that concept.

My opinion is that some people are more sensitive to other worldly happenings than others. Maybe the sixth sense is more finely tuned into some peoples brains than in others, that sounds plausible to me.
Either way, people are entitled to their own opinions, and they are certainly entitled to voice them here, without being ridiculed.

It's not so much fear of Hell, I know there are far worse people in the world than myself if there was a fiery chasm to face. But when I was young I made a selfish choice I believe I should be punished for.
It's more knowing I won't see my family and loved ones again, that it's all been for nothing. Obviously I won't 'realise' that devastating revelation at the time it happens as I won't have conscious thought. I do disagree with something JD said (I know, how very dare I ) and that's not being able to comprehend being dead.
At one time I couldn't but when two people close passed away and I saw them I realised the pain of nothingness. They were there but what made them who they were was gone. I've upset myself a little now lol, I'm away to bed.

In answer to above. No, I'm not scared of dying, it's the natural progression for everyone, we are born, we live, we die.
I am more scared of people I love dying, and obviously if it was my choice I would choose not to suffer.
A quick death, preferably when I am in bed, and hopefully not just yet, will suit me fine.
