Face coverings are to be made compulsory on public transport from June 15 to help quell coronavirus, Grant Shapps announced tonight.
The Transport Secretary unveiled the new rule for train, bus and Tube travel as he told the Downing Street briefing that makeshift masks can reduce the spread - following weeks of accusations that ministers were dragging their heels on the issue.
Mr Shapps said the 'challenges' for the network were 'increasing' as more people go back to work and schools and shops reopen. 'We are doing what many other countries have asked transport users to do,' he said. 'The evidence is that wearing face coverings offers some, albeit limited protection.'
Mr Shapps said while the rules would be mandatory and 'ultimately' people could be fined, he did not believe they would need much enforcement. 'Wearing a face covering helps protect others,' he said. 'Why wouldn't people want to do the right thing? We are all desperate to get rid of coronavirus.'

Yep....they have backtracked considerably on the issue of mask wearing.
Hospitals have now been added to public transport where it will be mandatory to wear a mask before admittance.

Why now? So many professionals saying the crises is over.
UPMC doctor says COVID-19 has become ‘less prevalent’ and isn’t making people as sick
Why are they allowing protests to go on and yet mass gatherings are banned still? Police are even giving permission for these protests, yet people will be fined for not wearing a mask. if you cannot see something is very wrong with this then I don't know what to say.

Because as always the authorities are so shit scared of being accused of 'racism' they will do anything to avoid it even if it puts thousands of lives at risk.
The first time I have heard a peep out of anyone was when today the Health Secretary asked for people to follow the rules this weekend and not join in mass protests (which have nothing to do with the UK anyway) and I confidently predict they won't and nothing will be done about it.

What do you want done about protests exactly? Well in some respects maybe we need a Trump in charge here then. Essentially Trump is the only leader of a major Country who isn't scared to threaten drastic action if protesters don't behave and bugger off. He's the only leader of a major Country who isn't scared of MSM.
The UK Government is too scared of MSM and have been for a while. Mainstream media is far too powerful in this Country. Mark my words they stir and cause a lot of issues in this Country directly and indirectly.

This is only in England at the moment but it's reckoned Jockland will follow suit.
I'll be exempt though because I have Asthma.
Asthma attacks are quite terrifying and I imagine wearing a mask would make it a 100 x worse.

Well I for one won’t be going on public transport.
But I think it’s a bit late, everyone should have been wearing masks at the beginning
but scientists said they made no difference. Politicians have been winging it, you don’t know who to listen too.
If scientists can’t get it right then there is know hope.
Politicians now are only interested in get the country back to normal, but
there are certain areas of the country that are over 1 in the R ratings.
They lifted the lockdown way too soon, they should of left it till the ratio for all
towns were better than they are now.

Where I live has the highest infection rates now in the country. People are being strongly advised not to send any children back into schools till July at the earliest.
The death rate is still high round here, and tbh, seeing the way some local people have acted throughout this pandemic, not following lockdown or social distancing rules, I'm not surprised.
The government now seem to have lost the plot a bit....the mask wearing and the 2 week quarantine rule for incoming flights, though they do explain their reasons for introducing those rules so late in the day, seem to be grating with a lot of people.

If the Scientists and other experts don't know definitive answers. That's just how it is. No ones fault as such. We don't know the answers to everything. If only!
There are going to be local/hotspot lockdowns I suspect. The overall R when all studies are taken into account, is still 0.7 to 0.9 for the UK.
That is the last figures that I read. Unless it's changed today.
And after all of this time the economy does have to be seriously thought about whether people may like that or not. We can't gt away from that.

What can they do without clear science and definitive answers on some issues. Scientists and experts seem to change their mind regular.
Also as I said the other day there are far too many of them putting an opinion into the mix. Why has SAGE got over 50 members. These people should stop appearing on Sky News etc as well. Too many opinions out there will only cloud the thought processes of decision makers. I'd love to know how many experts have been 'involved' in other Countries.
Who would want these decisions. It actually shows that Boris did actually follow the science. On things such as masks and quarantine. Until recently! Notice how no expert was at yesterdays briefing for the first time. Regarding masks and quarantine you've heard many times experts explain in their own words about how general public wearing masks is of very little benefit, if any at all. You've heard them explain the quarantine situation. The Government clearly went with what they said. Until recently.
In hindsight probably would have been better for the Government to just make up their own minds more.
It's a no win situation whatever though.

Nudging above 1 in some areas obviously means that the virus is spreading more in some areas.
Infection and death rate is higher in the NW now than in any other part of the country.
The only answer I can see is cut back on loosening the lockdown in those areas.

After reading the latest info I can find. Yeah for sure I can see the South West and North West having a local or hotspot lockdown.
Although, any easing of lockdown is bound to cause a shift. It was expected. They actually said that at the time.
I also recall that some Countries in Europe initially saw a slight shift in R, and then they seemed to have gone quiet about it. All still seems fine in these places.
Those frigging ongoing protests are fucking up London that is pretty much for sure. They were down to 0.4 there a week or so ago. Those people are fucking up all the previous good work done by the masses in London. They had a far lower R rate than any other part of the Country last week.
