A mum has told of her devastation after her tiny baby was born alive after an abortion at 18 weeks - and lived for ten hours.
Loran Denison, 27, a stay-at-home mum from Blackburn, Lancashire, was pregnant with her fourth child, when a test at 15 weeks revealed he had Edwards' syndrome.
It's a rare but very serious condition and most babies with Edwards' syndrome will die before or shortly after being born, or at a young age.
Loran and partner Scott Watson, 35, made the agonising decision to have a medical abortion, after being told he was unlikely to be born alive.
She took a tablet and returned to hospital to be induced at 18 weeks and four days - but was astonished when her son Kiyo Bleu Watson was born breathing and alive.
And while the grieving mother said she doesn't want to deter anyone from making the right choice for them, watching her son die for 10 hours was 'torture'.

Heartbreaking, for all concerned.

The doctors don't always get it right. Sometimes they get it horribly wrong.

They do, but medicine ism't an exact art, and the chances of a baby being born alive at 18 weeks is tiny.
It's heartbreaking that he survived for 10 hours, God knows what pain her felt, it's a nightmare situation.

Many people aren't aware that there are survivors of abortion. Not just for hours but for decades.
If this child was born here, he would have been given medical attention. Maybe he was there too.

I doubt there was anything Dr's could have done to save him.
The baby is unusual in that he was alive and breathing. Makes me wonder how well he could have survived had he been given the chance to go full term.
Sadly no one will ever know.

A total tragedy for all concerned (including all the medics who will be devastated) but publicising highly unusual cases like this sadly only provides more fuel for the anti-abortion religious extremists.

While I'm pro choice, not all pro life folks are religious. And isn't the news mostly about the out of the ordinary?

Well it is highly unusual so yes I suppose the story would inevitably make it to the mass media MD, God knows what the poor parents are feeling, it can be a truly cruel world alright.
