While this addresses the US, I think y'all are right behind us on the obesity wagon.
Bill isn't afraid to take on some sacred cows..

There might be a lot thinner people with the recession coming up. Access to so much fast cheap food is to blame for a lot of obesity I think.

He talks sense...good for him. We in the UK also have an obesity problem. From what I see, especially in the younger generation, it's more usual to see overweight women than men...men seem to pile on the pounds in middle age more.
It does seem odd in todays society, when someone like Adele loses loads of weight and became gorgeous, seems a lot of people who had previously loved her, suddenly couldn't stand her. And women like the morbidly obese Lizzo, who loves to shake her massive bare arse at a camera at every opportunity, is seen as a free spirit showing the world you can be whatever size you want....and be fabulous with it, maybe a reality check is needed.

It's like any unhealthy vice.
It's your body, but don't expect me to ignore the facts and celebrate your unhealthy behavior.
Everyone seems to want to be part of an "oppressed" group.

I suppose people have always flaunted their unhealthy vices, it used to be fashionable to smoke...not that long ago if someone ordered a soft drink in a pub they were seen as odd.
Obesity is possibly the biggest killer of any of the bad habits people pick up.
Maybe a campaign of advertising, showing the damage obesity does to your health should be pushed. The ones showing congealed fat instead of ash, dripping off a cigarette end was enough to put anyone off smoking.

I blame governments, modern society and modern consumerism*. People are people and will remain people until the cows come home.
Modern transport: electric or fossil fuels. Urbanisation - majority of the world's human population now live in cities / built up areas - more so in the west. Ready made food - microwave, fast food, restaurants. The home as the main source of entertainment: internet and gaming.

Problem with that idea is that there is a growing momentum to act like being fat is like being gay.
It will become politically incorrect to try to convince people that they shouldn't be fat.

Well' we don't all have to go along with it.
The man on the video was right, people can get as fat as they like, but they shouldn't expect others to tell them that's the way to get healthy and look great.
It's unhealthy, a potential killer...and they look, well... fat, and fat isn't good.
