A natural beauty when young. I thought she was beautiful, more than Sophia Loren who everyone raved over..

She was Mags. As a girl, I remember she was one of the first 'sex symbols' if you like, that looked more natural....though obviously, she wasn't.
Later on, I remember she totally upstaged the bride when her son got married. She turned up late, making an entrance in a scene stealing outfit...very mean, but that was her...very diva ish.
She was on Pierce Morgan's chat show a couple of years ago...still very glamorous.

When I was a kid all you had to say was Raquel and everyone knew who you meant. The word sort of became part of our lexicon as a description of a very attractive woman..

In rare cases, some celebs only need one name, Raquel, Marylin, Bridget, Sophia...forget the surname....they don't need it.
Not many men seem to be known by just one name....Clark Gable, Sean Connery, Richard Gere....drop the last name and no one would know who you were talking about.
Liberace is the only one word male I think of...and hardly because he was sexy or beautiful.

Cher, Lulu, Cilla....all singers.
I cant think of many male actors known only by their first name.

Bono.
He's a singer as well right enough.
I'm not keen on him though, always wanting us to dig deep for charity while keeping a tight grip of his own dosh.

I have given this some thought...
Actually, the most famous of actors can be identified from their surnames...DeNiro, Pacino, Olivier, whereas the females are usually known by their first names.

All singers, not actors, unless you count 'Summer Holiday',.

US actress Raquel Welch, often credited with paving the way for modern day action heroines in Hollywood films, has died at the age of 82.
The Hollywood star passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning after a brief illness, her manager said.
Welch became an international sex symbol in the 1960s, widely remembered for playing a bikini-clad cavewoman in the 1966 film One Million Years BC.
She also won a Golden Globe for her role in 1974's The Three Musketeers.
