The Reckoning....ironically showing on BBC TV, starts tonight.
"The Reckoning makes its highly anticipated debut tonight at 9pm on BBC One, with its portrayal of Jimmy Saville's heinous crimes reenacted in the controversial drama.
Written by Neil McKay and executive produced by Jeff Pope, the four-part series will trace paedophile Savile's life through the decades.
When alive, the sex offender was one of the BBC's most popular presenters and figureheads, but was exposed as a serial abuser following his death.
Savile used his involvement in various organisations, such as; the BBC, the Catholic church, the political sphere, charities, hospitals and prisons to legitimise himself and go undetected while sexually abusing hundreds of children and young people. "

Steve Coogan plays him Mags.
Four of Savilles victims will also appear in the programme, they at last will have their say.
I will definitely watch it, he preyed around Manchester from the 60's onwards...everyone knew he was a creep, his real depravity wasn't made public till after his death.
The bastard died still believing he was a 'National Treasure'.

Ditto....sickly pervert.
I have to say, Coogans portrayal of him is brilliant.

He's obviously still holding court still has influence to entertain.

Dunno I'll ask the other half.

I won't be watching it because once again, the BBC skirts around its own complicity in the whole thing.

I wonder if by showing this, they are trying to atone for their past behaviour.
Though given the very recent cover-ups in regard to their presenters, I doubt it.

It seems to me that the focus of this four part "drama" is to convince its audience that the BBC did not know anything about Savile's behavior, did not cover for it, and that Savile duped them.

He duped a lot of people, plus he was surrounded by people, including police, figures in the 'establishment' and obviously the BBC hierarchy, who either used him and his pulling power for their own means, or turned a blind eye to his depravity.
This 'National Treasure' that people go on about has always amazed me. I have never met anyone who didn't think he was a creep of the first order...and that was long before his crimes were known publicly.

Okay this seems to extend beyond the BBC. I don't have a television so I will have to read up about this. I seem to recall he started out as a wrestler. Maybe he could be described as an impresario.

Yes he was a wrestler and around the Manchester club and gangster crowd he was known as bit of a hard case.

Not that hard.
"Saville claimed he lost all 35 of his first 35 matches. From the late ’50s to the early ’70s, Savile claimed to have had over 100 professional wrestling bouts.
Saville was keen and game to do anything in the ring and brought some name value, which made him a promotor’s favorite.
But the veterans did not like being made to look foolish by a non-wrestler; they legitimately beat Jimmy for trying to use his fame and status to break into the business.
His toe was broken in his very first match. After one bout, he visited the hospital after his testicles had been kicked up into his body.
Jimmy Savile continued to fight despite regular beatings until entering the ring with Adrian Street.
Best known under his “Exotic” persona, Street was a flamboyant and flashy character, not too far removed from Goldust in the WWE. However, despite Street’s showy moniker, the wrestler beneath the make-up and face paint was a tough-as-nails bruiser who could be vicious when he wanted to.
After being told the match with Saville would end in a draw, Street commented, “You’ve got to be bloody joking.”
Street was also annoyed that the promotor and Saville had double-crossed him about who would be making their entrance first. Furthermore, Saville had deliberately mimicked Street’s character, wearing multiple gowns. Street’s wife Linda later described it as watching “a hungry fox going after a frightened chicken.”
In a separate interview, Street describes beating Savile “black and blue,” beating him to such a pulp Saville never entered a wrestling ring again.
He was a fraud, even fixing some of his later fights so he would win or draw...when the last wrestler wouldn't be bought off, he had such a beating he never wrestled again.
Obviously by this time he had so much dirt on people he was protected. Around Manchester he was considered a freak...we Mancs are very astute.
My OH was a black cab driver, we dressed his cab up every year to take handicapped kids and adults to Blackpool for the day out. Saville, because of his fame, was allowed to lead the procession for years, he would disappear as soon as we got to Blackpool.
I actually dread to think where, or if he took any of those kids with him for a 'treat'.
