He was a great actor, and one of those very odd looking people in film that has a very powerful charisma, Alan Rickman, also sadly departed, had the same quality.
I remember when Sutherland and Julie Christie starred together in one of the best films of the time, 'Dont Look Now'. They had a very believable love scene...and it was widely reported that they actually did have sex on camera.
The film is definitely worth watching, and not only for that.
