I dont think it is just Scotland as my ex-BF family were full on Londerners, and the older ones always said messages for shopping. IE would ask the kids, "Can you go to the shop and get me some messages? It became normal to me , but I remember when I first heard it, I was all WTF 🤣🤣
This was a very long time ago; they were in thier 80s\90s back in the 70s so maybe it was the norm once everywhere, and only the Scots keep it going now
oh just had a look, and it's still used in Ireland as well https://www.phrases.org.uk/bulletin_board/60/messages/930.html Not found anything for Londoners though.

Sorry Guesty, I've just noticed this.
I was reading about an English woman, that was not long in Scotland, who was confused to be told a co-worker was 'greeting ' in the staffroom.
She thought she was saying hello or waving or something and had cracked up but of course 'greeting' means crying here.
Talking of Scottish words, I had a skelf on Saturday.
I hope Vita is OK, unusually, she hasn't posted for a while.
I miss her 😟
Hi Mags x
Hi Syl, Digs x
I've not been well, been to the hospital and had texts which show a problem but the doctor is unduly concerned and said he'll keep an eye on things.
Been running about like a blue arsed fly the last few days catching up on things.
Sorted now, just waiting for the big day!!
🎅🎄🎅
Oh I'm so glad to see you, we were all worried.
Glad you're ok hun, just text when you can x
He's a nice man, only started seeing him this year.
My other doctor retired, he must have been pushing eighty.
Will do Mags.
Just been putting the last touches to my festive food order, I keep adding things and then taking them out.
I'll probably be at it again in an hour!!
😁
Got family today, so doing a buffet, much easier 😃
I think a comedian picked my messages.
Savoury eggs instead of cocktail sausages and pancakes instead of tattie scones.
I love a buffet, put the napkins on top of your plate so everyone doesn't see all the grub you've got!!
😁
Have a great Christmas Mags, have a lovely time!!
🎅🎄
