People who use proxies do so in order to be abusive. The only type who use proxies usually have an agenda.

I can see them posting as guests, but if they want to join, why mess with a proxy?

They use proxies because they don't have the nerve to join with a regular ip and user name....they want to be anonymous in every way.
Half the guests use their regular ip, half use proxies....you can bet your life the nastier ones are NOT using their own ip.
