George Michael and other musical greats

Just watched 2.5 hour documentary about him.  He was such a prodigious talent, and so generous to charities.   I've always loved his songs, and he was one of the UK's most creative lyricists.   He never really got over the death of his mother and the death of the love of his life, Anselmo Feleppa.

GM wrote Jesus to a Child about him.   I mean, who writes lyrics like this anymore?   And who will replace the lost greats like Bowie, Prince, etc.

Kindness
In your eyes, I guess
You heard me cry
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child
I'm blessed
I know
Heaven sent
And Heaven stole
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child
And what have I learned
From all this pain
I thought I'd never feel the same
About anyone
Or anything again
But now I know
When you find your love
When you know that it exists
Then the lover that you miss
Will come to you on those cold, cold nights
When you've been loved
When you know it holds such bliss
Then the lover that you kissed
Will comfort you when there's no hope in sight
Sadness
In my eyes
No one guessed
Or no one tried
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child
Loveless and cold
With your last breath
You saved my soul
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child
And what have I learned
From all these tears
I've waited for you all those years
And just when it began
He took you away
But I still say
When you find love
When you know that it exists
Then the lover that you miss
Will come to you on those cold, cold nights
When you've been loved
When you know it holds such bliss
Then the lover that you kissed
Will comfort you when there's no hope in sight
So the words you could not say
I'll sing them for you
And the love we would have made
I'll make it for two
For every single memory
Has become a part of me
You will always be
My love
Well, I've been loved
So I know just what love is
And the lover that I kissed
Is always by my side
Oh, the lover I still miss
Was Jesus to a child

He certainly did.  He was one of the few who could sing a Freddy Mercury song.

I remember when he did a duet on The X Factor with Joe McElderry, who also has a fabulous voice. That was a real treat!

I don't remember that.   I could kick myself for not taking the time to see him live.   Taking my husband to see The Damned soon.   He loves them and they're all cracking on now.   Don't want to leave it too late.lol

I know, I mentioned that the other day somewhere.

He donated quietly and without fanfare. The phrase beautiful inside and out is used quite a lot nowadays when people die, but I truly think he was.

Loved his music since the Wham ‘Edge of Heaven’ days in the 80’s. Favourite song probably Father Figure. Musically it’s beautiful.

It's a beautiful tribute to Anselmo .  The words are so full of love for him.  Such a talented man.

Who will replace him, and others of this level of talent? Music today is very depressing in that it's often so over produced and vacuous.

He's irreplaceable, and I agree about today's music.  Style over substance does not make good music.
