Hi Syl, Gx and other nice posters and nice readers
We were debating this story last night.
Saturday jobs not too sure re that if they are stiil around or as more likely filled
by those zero hours contracts.

A Resolution Foundation report suggests a quarter of 16 and 17-year-olds were in work between 2017 and 2019 - falling from 48% in 1997-99.
Young people were instead prioritising studies over part-time work, it added.
The think tank says the number of people who have never worked increased by 52% over the last 20 years.
The report says 8.2% of people aged 16-64 - some 3.4 million people in total - had never had a paid job. That is a 52% increase since 1998 when 5.4% had never worked, the report added.

In one of my roles i often met MF's in their mid 40's that had never worked and claimed one
type or other benefits. Many claimed disability but able to go to the pub, carry shopping, do friends gardens, go to matches
and ready for a fight and often full of BS stories how they offered to fix someone's face etc, IE hinting that it was not
to be messed with. We were trained up and knew what to expect but it was scary at times and these types gave
the genuine majority a bad press.
Personally, I don't blame the workshy millions that abuse the systems it's our lame government not acting on
it and at times targeting the wrong people. If I met someone that was genuinely unable to work for a few weeks, months or even years because of one thing or another, I'd write on their behalf and at times it did help. On the other hand, I did also rang the BF line where they were blatantly taking the pee
and trying to intimidate people..
I was fair and fair to even those that were rude as they were born like that or possibly had bad experiences with people with a degree of power.
The good thing was that the vast majority did thank me and/or apologised for their behaviour when they noted I not on;y operated within the system
but had the courage and ability to make the rules work in their favour where possible and appropriate as after all I was dealing with real people.
Thanks

On topic I can't say I blame young people for choosing to pursue education if all that is on offer is zero hour contracts that offer no stability or security and terrible pay.
I don't think zero hour contracts are morally acceptable but are certainly typical of our government.
Morals don't make money do they. That's all the powers that be care about. Those on low incomes or worse in poverty relying on the soul destroying pride stealing but sadly necessary food banks can just go off and die somewhere as far as the elitist are concerned.
I just can't summon any energy to be judgemental about youths in education ...not with the divide between rich and poor as it is.
