I cannot help but note that most forums seem to have become stale and boring.
Is it a fad that has now run it's course, seldom encouraging new posters just the old tired recycled ones? It seems like no one has nothing new or interesting to say anymore.

The corona virus and stockpiling is new... albeit not interesting!
Newsfix is full of people slagging each other off.
I doubt that.
On every forum there will always be one or two who slag people off, but I was there for years and am still a member, NF was a nice place to post and the majority of the people were lovely.

Agreed.
Newsfix is angelic compared to other forums..!
No re writing of forum history and all the other boring trolling that goes on elsewhere happens on NF. Posters are refreshingly honest too. Ben is a fair impartial owner which helps and there isn't any guest posting.
Speaking as a guest myself I am effectively critiquing being given a right to air my view however forums which allow guest posting do tend to have more trolling. It is a bit unfair to condemn guest posters if you welcome them on your forum. That means you too, welcome drama.
Or if you truly don't, remove the privilege to post anonymously.

I make no secret that I'm not struck on guest posting, most of the time it's just a platform for cowards imo.
It's not my forum though, and CM has always had guest posting, so obviously I am happy to go along with it, if I wasn't I wouldn't be here.

It is just a platform for cowards, I agree, nor am I keen on it.
And thank you for kindly approving my own guest post that I don't in my own opinion, approve of..! :embarrassed:
In response to the OP though, no I don't think forums have had their day. Alot of posters have left but that was due to conflict, not lack there of.
It might be entertaining and jolly japes for people reading but arguing isn't all that fun for the posters involved. I think forums hopefully will improve being smaller because folk will know each other better and become more tolerant of contrasting views.
I think if you've been on forums for years, there isn't much to say which hasn't already been said.
However, I think having forums is a good way for people living alone to chat and feel they're not alone.
I enjoy it still, not on line like I was years ago, but I wouldn't like to not have them.
Sums it up very well Magica. x
There are social media people and forum people. Myself, I cannot abide social media and prefer , when I am able , to chat on forums. Social media is more clinical and narcissistic imo, not everyone wants to see a photo of someone's risotto they made for tea. Depends on the risotto though!
It's a way for people who are ill or who possibly live by themselves currently to have contact with others and discuss events that matter to them or just have light hearted banter to cheer them up.
If DS does ever shut it's forum doors maybe then you could say they are on their way out. I don't know how popular or busy DS is now so can't really say how likely that is.

Thanx anon, I don't have social media either. What's the point of Facebook, if I want to chat I phone them. Also people from the past getting intouch, well if I wanted to stay in touch, I would have done so well before Facebook was invented!
No social media for me either.
I am not that interested on the latest hilarious comment someone's obnoxious child came out with, or what some stranger who calls themselves a friend has had for dinner.
