Interesting debate though.

I honestly don't know what to think. It seems to have become about politics and morality rather than just trying to examine how best to handle it.

A lot of people are raising the risk of global melt down as being far more harmful. The cure being worse than the disease so to speak.

That's terrifying.

Perhaps this is what is needed to make mankind sit up and listen.    We're all so absorbed in the glittery things on offer we're burying our heads in the sand.   At least with social media people can discuss things and any lies eventually might get exposed.

I don't think we're really going to have any clear answers until this is done and dusted tbh.

I hope this brings about some positive social changes too.

What positive social change that hasn't already happened would you like it to bring about?

In a word: Sweden. What happens if they pull this off? What happens if it turns out that we could have coped with COVID-19 without collapsing entire sectors of the economy putting millions on the dole, and imposing some of the most draconian restrictions on civil liberties in living memory?

Sweden has not closed the bars. Shopping malls are open. Schools and companies are open too. There are some restrictions such as on gatherings of over 500 people. But, in comparison with most European countries, life in Sweden is relatively normal.

Right now, Sweden's death rate from coronavirus is 33 per million of the population. In France it is 83. In Italy it is 230. In Britain it is 43. In the Netherlands it is 78.

In the United States the number of deaths per million of the population is 18, but many argue that the outbreak in America took off later, and European levels of fatality from the virus are on their way. We shall see.

But, in any case, which levels of European fatality? The figures are all over the place. Partly this must be due to different ways in which the death toll is being counted.

I was looking at a podcast about Swedens handling of the crisis.

I agree, the figures will not refect a true account until this is over.

I'm in touch with my entire extended family who are spread out in almost every corner of the world. We're all so worried - not for ourselves but for all the young family members, the poor innocents. :(

I have NO confidence in our various world leaders and the mealy mouthed dross they spout daily.
They have no handle on this, they're just making it up as they go along.

I envy Swedish people their liberty. The knee jerk reaction of France et al is a farce and based on the amount of elderly who died. The virus was present long before  European politicians knew. The Swedish model is the one that benefits the greater good.

China is asking us to believe they have had less deaths in the entire country of almost 1.4 billion people than New York - what absolute cobblers.

Yeah, were going to have to draw conclusions from other places. Unfortunately, were are going to have a lot of data and deaths to go over to see who handled this the best to learn for the next one.
