TOPIC: YouTube influencer Myka Stauffer draws backlash for 'rehoming' her autistic four-year-old son three years after adopting
A YouTube influencer is facing criticism for giving up her four-year-old adopted son to another home after adopting him from China.
Myka Stauffer, 32, and her husband James posted a tearful video on Tuesday saying they've decided to 'rehome' their adopted 4-year-old son Huxley.
James said that, three years after adopting the boy, he and his wife had discovered 'there were a lot more special needs that we were not aware of.'
Myka who also has four biological children added: 'Do I feel like a failure as a mom? Like 500 percent.'
Myka has 717,000 subscribers on YouTube. Her popular videos include, REAL Newborn Morning Routine 2019, What I Eat In A Day To Stay Healthy And Lean, and SURVIVE Quarantine like a BOSS! THRIVE AND get your life BACK!
Her sponsor partners include big-name companies like Big Lots, TJ Maxx and Danimals yogurt, according to the New York Post.
Myka and James cited medical privacy concerns for not explaining in detail why they decided to give Huxley up. She has previously stated that the toddler has autism and brain trauma.
But people on Twitter were mad at the couple. They accused the couple of adopting Huxley as a stunt to gain viewers.
'She adopted a child for views and then got rid of him and treated him like a brand deal,' one wrote.
'I never watched that Myka Stauffer youtube mom, but I am RAGING over the fact that they rehomed their adopted special needs son,' wrote another.
'You adopted him solely for the attention it would give you and now you're giving him away. Unbelievable,' another chimed in.
But Myka said in her video that it wasn't her fault and she made the difficult decision for Huxley's own benefit.
'I didn't adopt a little boy to share these things publicly … Ninety-nine, 95 percent of the struggles we have never publicly aired,' she said in the video she posted on YouTube on Tuesday.
'Numerous medical professionals have felt that he needed a different fit. He needed more,' she siad.
She added that an adoption agency had helped place Huxley with his 'forever family.'
'He's thriving, he's doing really well, and his new mommy has medical, professional training,' she added.
I know you have to walk in someone else's shoes, but this seems like a very cold, selfish decision.
The little boy knows no other home or parents, she knew the situation when she adopted him three years ago, did she really think life was going to be easy?
I agree with what you said, if she had given birth to him would she have tossed him away when he became older and more demanding?......maybe she would, maybe he was interfering with her need to be the big 'I am' on the internet, whatever, it's very cruel imo.
Special needs - hmmm ……. tricky! Things can go badly wrong.
Must take a huge amount of patience, generosity of spirit - and luck - to get it right.
There was a horror story recently where the little 'child' was actually an adult of restricted growth, who apparently tried to kill the adoptive parents.
And another one where the parents were so traumatised by the child's feral ways that they sued the adoptive agency. Massive law suit!

I heard about that and it reminded me of 'Orphan'! :surprise:
I hope you and your loved ones are all ok Text.

Her zombie stare is unsettling! I don't watch horror movies at all.
I'm not too bad, thanks, JD. :-)
We are keeping a close eye on all the younger family members and pleased for them that things are slowly returning to normal.
