"The Prime Minister announced that pubs and restaurants, along with other businesses, can reopen on 4 July.

Mr Johnson said this is the beginning of the end of “our long national hibernation”.

He said: “Our principle is to trust the British public to use their common sense in the full knowledge of the risks – remembering that the more we open up, the more vigilant we will need to be.”

Pubs and restaurants in England must reopen in a “covid secure” way, which will involve more hand washing and table service.

Customers will be encouraged to book online, will not be able to stand at the shared bar any more, and one household can meet one other in the pub at a time.

Venues will be expected to keep a register of visitors’ contact details in case they are needed for test and tracing in the event of an outbreak

Nightclubs will not yet be reopening.

Kate Nicholls, the chief executive of UKHospitality, welcomed the move, saying: “Having confirmation of the reopening date is a real boon and affords businesses some time to make the necessary preparations.

“Our sector was one of the first to be seriously affected and we are going to be one of the last to reopen. Getting venues open again, even with social distancing measures in place, is the best way to secures businesses and jobs.”

However, Chief medical adviser Patrick Vallance warned: “Don’t be fooled this means [coronavirus] has gone away.”

Asked if he would take the blame if the latest loosening leads to a spike in cases, Johnson said: “Yes, of course I take responsibility, the government takes responsibility for these decisions. We are indebted to our scientific colleagues for their advice continually – but it is our responsibility to choose.”

The doors of the UK’s pubs have remained shut since 20 March, three days before Boris Johnson announced the wider nationwide lockdown to combat coronavirus.

Since then, vast numbers of staff employed by pubs, restaurants and hotels have been supported by the Government’s furlough scheme.

On 11 May, the Government released a 50-page document outlining how restrictions could be eased, although it included heavy caveats and stopped short of confirming a date when lockdown will be lifted entirely."

apparently pubs can open from 6am tomorrow yep you heard that right, 6 bloody am, its like people haven't been drinking for the past 3 months.

I just hope the majority of people do what I'm planning on doing, staying in, watching the football or in the garden.

I just have no idea why people would want to go to the pub, it won't be a normal experience, there won't be any football. If people actually stayed in, not go on holiday then we would have a chance of doing what New Zealand did to this virus. Seriously we have Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon, we have game consoles, books to keep us entertained. We could have done it for a few more weeks and then wait until we are sure its safe

I know...6am, blimey, I bet some people will be queueing outside like some do when the sales start.

One of the oddest new rules is people should not talk too loudly so as not to increase the chance of oral transmission of the virus.

Did you all hear about the theme park guidelines, Apparently they advice not screaming, I have no idea how that would work on a ride to be honest

All but ending. Not particularly tbf. At least not for quite a few! No Theatres, Night clubs. Indoor gyms. Nail bars. Probably missed something out as well. Many people are moaning about these things not being opened tomorrow.

Its not ended for the people who run those places.

These people in power are stuck between a rock and a hard place on a daily basis. I don't envy them that's for sure.

I don't think so. Unless the "young" pack them out. I actually think it will be a gradual thing. I don't think everyone is going to rush all at once.

Loud talking creates more flying spittle than normal volumes.

You'd be surprised how much comes out of all our mouths during normal talking, shouting, screaming etc

New Zealand have 5 million people in a slightly larger land mass than we have 67 million. I'm not surprised how quickly they got it under excellent control.

Population density figures between NZ and the UK are MASSIVELY different. You'd be surprised how HUGE the gap is.

No way. I suspect The Landlords and staff are going to be lonely at that time.

The 6 am openings will be for certain night workers. Many pubs in London were open at 6 am for the likes of Smithfield and other specialist markets. They normally didn't open in the evenings

Most people will be sensible but the selfish minority, the beach/rave/party/BLM/littering crowd (mainly the young who feel invincible) will ensure there is plenty for the police to be concerned about tomorrow.

Plus of course even though the numbers are slowly declining there are still around 150 people a day dying in the UK (almost all of them in England), a few months ago that would have seemed horrifying but now it has been relegated to a footnote in the news.

89 yesterday. 137 today.

Around 60 down and 50 down from the same days last week. Next week my guess is that no day will be above 100.

I think people need to think about the weekly progress.

Someone has to throw some optimism in there. We all obviously need it.

New positive cases have also been under a 1,000 for a week running now. Some days have been around 600.

More demonstrations probably, there have been some every weekend and although many do wear masks practice social distancing a lot certainly don't, it all adds to the danger of a second wave.
