‘Parent shouting Allahu Akbar’ beheads Paris teacher ‘for showing pupils cartoons of the Prophet in class’

A parent shouting Allahu Akbar and thought to be wearing an explosive vest has been shot dead by French police near Paris after allegedly beheading a school teacher with a knife.

The victim was said to have been a school teacher who had enraged parents by displaying cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed to pupils.

A source told Le Parisien: ‘The victim had recently given a lesson to his students on freedom of expression and had shown the caricatures of Muhammad’.

'The body of decapitated man was found at around 5.30 in the afternoon,' said an investigating source.

'When police arrived, the person thought to be responsible was still present and threatened them with his weapons.'

The unidentified killer then fled to the nearby town of Eragny-sur-Oise, around two miles away, where he refused to surrender.

'He was waving a gun by this time and further threatened officers,' said the source. 'This is when he was shot dead by police.. Around ten shots were heard.'

It's too easy to blame religion and mental health issues.  Nutters come from all walks of life but when a religion, belief or creed gives savages like this something to get their teeth into, all is lost.  The world is getting more and more filled with an immunity to violence.  We need tougher laws.

For extremists in organised religion (especially Wahhabism) the very nature of their belief means that they consider themselves to above man's laws and feel totally justified in committing atrocities like this.

They truly believe they are doing their God's will.

True....which makes them far more dangerous than the average savage.

Yes because they have absolutely no fear of death and truly believe that they will wake up in Paradise for all eternity.

The teacher probably shouldn't have been doing that - he must have known that it might inflame someone. Mocking religion when that religion contains plenty of extremists isn't a good idea.

More facts are coming out.   I agree, I see little point in showing those cartoons at all.  Apparently, he sent all the muslim kids out of the room.   But if that was necessary then he knew it was inflammatory and I can't see the point, unless it was linked somehow to an approved curriculum.

Having said that, it's not good when a religion or community think it's OK or condone this kind of thing.   Everyone is entitled to free speech.   Nobody should live in fear just because a religion has extremist followers.  It's going back to the middle ages and the Inquisition.

There are people who are harmed by extremists when they haven't done anything, but it's not living in fear to avoid inflaming people. He must have known what happened at Charlie Hebdo, and he could teach about freedom of expression without using cartoons mocking Islam. If it's a choice between leaving the cartoons at home and being beheaded, it's an obvious choice really.

It's also a theocracy, and that's often the problem.  Like all religion it gets twisted to suit agendas.   That's why I can't stand religion as something that is followed slavishly.   It creates a them and us.  Divides and conquers.   I know others will disagree but that's how I see it.   And I'm entitled to that opinion.   However, I can still respect the beliefs of those who are religious, particularly if it gives them spiritual comfort.  Each to their own.   But just don't shove it down my neck or kill and mutilate in its name.

Judaism rejects Christ as a Divine Being but you don't see Catholics getting all outraged over it.    And the problem with your last sentence is that the more you try to bully a people or nation the less likely they are to adhere to your demands.    Do the Germans pretend the holocaust never happened?  Or do they teach it as part of their country's history?  What happened with the Charlie Hebdo incident is part of French history now.   An atrocity.   Perhaps the teacher was trying to illustrate just how extreme and ridiculous it was the murder people for a cartoon.

I'm not sure what he was teaching them, but if he said Muslims could leave if they were offended that shows that he knew perfectly well that it could cause trouble.

Even at the time of Charlie Hebdo killings, even though I thought it was horrendous, I just didn't understand why people want to mock religion, especially when they've been told that it's offensive. It wasn't just cartoons, it was the mockery behind them which deeply offended some Muslims.

There is definitely more violence associated with Islamic extremism but that's the way it is, and if you don't want to be attacked, don't mock their religion. It's not that difficult really.

Obviously, it's horrible what happened and the man who attacked the teacher got killed himself, which is fair enough. If you don't want to get shot, don't go around beheading people.

Anyway, nine people have been arrested in connection with the murder, and if they were involved I hope they get sent down for a very very long time - perhaps for the rest of their lives.

What you're saying is the teacher and the Hebdo staff were asking for it.
