I remember many years ago in the 1970s, she and Cliff Richard opened an arts centre and I went along to see them. She was stunningly beautiful with the biggest blue eyes.
I saw her at the Palladium when I was a teenager in 1970.. I went to see Cliff, she was engaged to Bruce Welch of the Shadows and performed too. Lovely voice.
Beautiful she was, big eyes, lovely smile looked angelic. I couldn't help wondering what she was doing with Bruce, it was obvious it wouldn't last. He punched well above his weight.
She had cancer in the breast 3 times in 30 yrs I think. Got clear, then later came back again in the same place. What a nightmare.
I think this latest round of cancer was in her spine.
I never was a huge fan of her music, but her passing still saddens me greatly. It's part of my youth gone. A part that hasn't been tarnished with time. She was a beauty, a class act and a fighter.
A lot of younger performers could learn something from her.
I read a tweet by Travolta today that almost teared me up.

I think she had a lovely voice. It wasn't a strong voice but it was melodic and wistful.
This is one of my favourite songs of hers, singing as the muse Terpsichore.
I think her words about her battle with cancer are uplifting, and incredibly gallant. There's no self pity. No rage. Just acceptance and gratitude for her life.
'I've had and am having an amazing life so I have no complaints. I really don't.
'Everyone goes through something. We all have something we need to go through in life. This has been my challenge.'
Very sad indeed, she fought for years, and in all her interviews she was so optimistic, a beautiful lady who appealed to both sexes through the decades.
Grease is one of the best musicals ever made, imo. She was 30, playing a teenager, and she played it to perfection.
I am old enough to remember the Cliff Richards show on TV, Olivia was a frequent guest, and she often duetted with Cliff.
It was obvious they had a great affection for each other, course back then no one suspected Cliff was gay, and like Mags said, it eventually came out Olivia was dating Bruce Welch, one of Cliffs backing group.
John Travoltas words were beautiful...like Maddog said, they touched the heart.

Ahem, cliff has never identified as gay
I read years ago, that John and Olivia had a thing, which is why he said your Danny and your John. Mind you who wouldn't have fancied John back then. I did

No, Cliff hasn't...he has kept his private life private all through the years.
Maybe his religion, or the fact that he was a teenage heart throb when it was illegal to be a practising gay had something to do with it.
At least he has never shoved his sexuality down anyone else's throat...as is the custom nowadays.
Yep, I fancied John too...but not as much as Richard Gere.

That's it Syl, Cliff never made a song and dance about his sexuality.like thousands who jump.on the bandwagon. What's coming out anyway. I'm straight, but I don't feel.the need to shout about.it.I

So I played "Hopelessly devoted to you" on the jukebox last night at a local watering hole..
Had about 4 middle aged women get up, start dancing together and performing a poor rendition of the song..
It's weird. I never really was a fan of her music, especially after her country days (she won as female performer of the year in about 1973), but I'm a fan of her as a human. With so many artists, we have to do the opposite.
Enjoy their music and try to disregard their comments and actions.
