Questions though: do you ever encounter another vehicle heading in the opposite direction on those ribbon-narrow trails? Also, snakes, mountain lions, bears, wolves…other critters that would make me break out in a cold sweat?
One could certainly gather their thoughts doing a road trip in that terrain.
Re what Vam said....we have driven on similar roads in Spain and Greece. Little more than dirt tracks up the side of mountains, praying no other vehicle would be round the next corner...and all this on the wrong side of the road, it's pretty hair raising, so good luck Maddog.
I used to live very high up in the hills out here, off a strip of road not much wider than those in Madders’ vids. No guardrails to my right (‘wrong‘ side of the road), just a vast empty abyss…
Worth it for the views, of course. But these days I’m strictly smooth asphalt, coastal and car-to-door!

If you encounter another vehicle, the one going downhill backs up until there is enough room for two vehicles. That never happened, thankfully.
There were some very narrow parts where going forward had me worried. Glad i never had to do it in reverse. You won't survive if you slide off of some of those cliffs.
All of those animals except wolves (i think ) were present there.
Colorado and Utah don't have grizzly bears. A black bear could kill you, but it's extremely rare. Like once every 10 years I think.
I have a rooftop tent, which gets me off the ground.
Such beautiful countryside. I bet the air is pure and lovely.
As a Texan, I'm used to wide open spaces, but we usually see signs of humanity everywhere. Agriculture, ranching something other than natural habitat.
These parts of the West are so remote it's crazy. I didn't see a human for two days.
And yes, the air is different rhan probably any place in Europe, except for maybe the Shetland Isles or something? Maybe the upper reaches of Scandinavia?
