By reading about it. I live in a country where the internet is pretty wide open. But let's say I was a female rights organizer in Tehran and didn't want to get thrown in prison for sharing what's happening there. I might have a use for the dark web that is beyond the control of the Iranian government.

I used Tor a few years back to talk to military guys (one soldier but it was a site like this so got to see others conversations about stuff they weren't allowed to talk about).

For most people who use it I suspect it's for porn so their wives families etc don't see it on their Google history I also suspect it isn't really as anonymous as some hope.

The intelligence services of many countries would be very unhappy if it was!
