Mary Poppins..category changed from U to PG.

Sixty years after it's release, the powers that be have decided that adults should not let their children watch this classic favourite childrens film, without adult supervision. Reason being a word is used...a word few seem to have heard of, that is now deemed insulting to all. bored

"Mary Poppins, the classic film starring Julie Andrews, has had its age rating raised by British film censors because it features "discriminatory language".

The 1964 film has been reclassified from a U, which stands for universal, to a PG, for parental guidance.

In it, a derogatory term originally used by white Europeans about nomadic peoples in southern Africa is used to refer to soot-faced chimney-sweeps.

That now "exceeds our guidelines" for U films, the BBFC said.

The film is set in London in 1910 and follows a magical nanny, played by Dame Julie, who looks after a family's children with the help of Bert, a busking chimney-sweep played by Dick Van Dyke.

It won five Oscars in 1965, including best actress and best song."

If anyone is interested...and this took me 5 minutes of digging because all channels seem to be NOT saying what the word actually is....

"Khoekhoe, Khoikhoi or KHOI as known today (or Khoikhoi in the former orthography; formerly also Hottentots, a term now considered offensive ) are the traditionally nomadic pastoralist indigenous population of South Africa. They are often grouped with the hunter-gatherer San (literally "Foragers") peoples."

Odd that an old fashioned word that no one has heard of, said by an old character in a 60 year old film, can cause such alarm...yet black folks, (or white folks pretending to be black) can write songs filled with sexually and racially demeaning words, that no one bats an eye at.

Personally, I would rather kids hear and understand the word 'Hottetot' rather than the oft sung words 'Mother Fucker, bitch and Ho. ragga

They make it all up to justify their own post in employment.    The same thing applies to the over-inflated university system which should be cut back by 80% to include only those subjects requiring it - such as STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths).   The rest should be taken up by apprenticeships and similar.   There is so much waste of money, time and effort over nonsense - it is a modern day emperor without his clothes - or 2+2 =5 Orwellian prediction.

more race baiting. It's ok for kids to watch overtly sexual violence and deviant sex acts on TV though.

It's all very one sided now, never say anything against black or brown people, Muslims, the religion they follow, the dress code they might adhere to, if you do, you are of course racist. bored

White skinned Christians are obviously fair game in their own country.

One other bugbear of mine too....have you noticed on TV, if so called 'celebs' are playing any game for their chosen charities, the white guests will always choose a charity that will benefit all...the black guest more often than not choose a charity specifically for black people!

Equality?....not for all.
