According to a local headmaster in greater Manchester, in his school, it's more like three quarters of children who are starting school are not toilet trained,

"One in four children starting school are not toilet trained, a report detailing the struggle of post-pandemic teaching has revealed.

Primary school teachers are having to spend two and half hours per day supporting children in their class who are not school-ready, according to research from an early years charity."

Quarter of new schoolchildren still not toilet trained, says report | The Independent

These are the children who were born just before the pandemic, when millions of parents were at home.
They had all that spare time to spend with their toddlers....I wonder why they didn't spend it training and educating their youngsters in the basics.

Kids were never allowed into nursery unless they were clean, let alone school. It's not the teachers or TA's job to clean bums! Also surely it could be mistaken as sexual. That's why nurseries never did it.

Parents should train them, if not, no school. They'd soon do it then!

Without looking at the article - and thinking about the above headline - it wouldn't surprise me if this was among the "white-ethnic-British" community rather than the "immigrant" community.   The immigrant community comprises people from eastern Europe (white), Asia, Africa .... I have heard recent immigrants often don't know how to speak English and often need an army of translators (to cater for all the different language).

Now if one thinks the former - does that make one a snob (class prejudice) - and if one thinks the latter - a raacist.   Or is it just a person that has been fed a diet of media stories and could believe anything (at least anything that is reported or rumored).

Could Feminism and the "Me-Me (You-You) Consumer Society" be to blame along with the break up of the nuclear family?

More likely sheer laziness, and the preference to give all the attention to a mobile phone rather than an actual child.

That's one solution, but I honestly believe the useless parents who can't even be bothered to potty-train their child, wouldn't care less about their child not being educated.

We are talking about 5 year old here...unless a child has mental or physical problems, all children should be dry well before three.

This from March 2023.

"A recent study found that almost half of new pupils starting reception class are not 'school ready', with a growing number of four-year-olds unable to hold a pencil, eat independently or socialise.

There is also an alarming amount of children starting school still in nappies."

A lot of its new age parenting where parents don't want to force kids to do things. They don't want to make them uncomfortable or stress their little darlings. Its why Gen Z is so incompetent in terms of dealing with things life throws at them. Their parents helicoptered over them and never forced them to do anything. I don't think it's as much being lazy as it is just being weird.

For the record, kids are more medicated, have more anxiety, higher suicide rates and far more obesity.

None of this shit is working well for the kids.

I do think it's laziness, and also disinterest in their kids.

I live near the area where the headmaster said in his school it was more like three quarters of the reception kids who were not toilet trained.

It's the norm to see mothers totally ignoring their kids, whilst giving all their attention to their mobiles.

I also think some, as you say, let their kids call the shots for fear of stressing them. This showed when one local school debated banning mobile phones when kids were in lessons.

The 11 year old were traumatised. One girl when interviewed said it would be taking away her human rights.bored

Such lazy parents.  Probably on benefits, can't be bothered to move off the settee!

I think most of them won't live to see 60.   A whole generation of uselessness.

I know someone (don't talk to her though because she's a pain in the arse) she's morbid obese and both her children are well on the way to being the same.

Takeaway drivers never away from the house.

When I was wee, a fish supper or getting a burger was a treat now and again.

Not every night.

A man was charged for breaking the restraining order that was in place because he wouldn't drop his two weans at the end of his ex-wife street.

Insisted on dropping them at the gate.

They were teenagers, not toddlers.

Some are whinging now doing exams in person and not online is distressing them too much!!

Same with sports days, some schools took out the competing element, because losing was too traumatic.bored

A local school cancelled their sports day a couple of years ago...because it was raining.

Losing is good...it prepares kids mentally, no one goes through life winning at everything they try...and a rain shower never hurt anyone either.

Life is competitive, you must learn to compete in work, sport, life, anything. Otherwise you just become sad losers.

I had heard of the term "helicopter parents" but never took the time to find out what it meant.  So it seems they are parents that monitor their children even without their children knowing (surveillance) and act to hide away from them all things in their environment the parents deem to be harmful.

 Raining??

I can mind going cross country running when it was pouring down and each year our house went head to head with the other house on sports day.

It was great and young people today are missing out.
