This movie has created a lot of buzz over here. I believe it's the creation of a British director.

I haven't heard of it yet.
If the soundtrack is as muffled as that clip, I doubt I will bother.

“There is something in the film which is trying to be protective of [journalists],” says Garland. His father was a longtime newspaper cartoonist, and you can sense an admiration for that old guard of foreign correspondents he grew up around in London. “I think serious journalism needs protecting, because it’s under attack, so I wanted to make those people ‘heroes’ to put them front and centre.”

I have heard of Alex Garland from the book he wrote - The Beach - about a group of island travellers looking for an idyllic island.   The book was turned into a film directed by Danny Boyle.

Do you think that there could be a civil war any time soon Maddog?

It's like the pins are being set up in line. Threat of WW111, talk of conscription, Millions of illegals, cities being over run, violence. Citizens feeling let down by corrupt officials. food prices going through the roof gas at a high prices unaffordable housing. looting/shoplifting etc.

Are your everyday Americans getting pissed ?

It's hard to tell. I've never lived in a country that had a civil war so I don't really know what to look for.

Americans are pissed and polarized. Government is getting more and more useless and corrupt.

I imagine these things aren't usually seen by most people until they kick off..

I don't think Americans in 1859 were expecting a civil war 2 years later.

There is not going to be a civil war in America.  There were mostly peaceful protests a while back.    One of the States of the Union could hold a referendum to go independent from the Union but there seems no political will for it.  Many have said Texas would be the first to consider this but there is no political will in Texas and the majority population don't seem interested.

I think we're all headed for a civil war eventually. The lack of policing, weak politicians, silly woke ideals, increasing taxes and bills, feckless scroungers, piss poor pay, homelessness, poverty, a broken NHS. The list is endless. How can an MP be paid £91K plus expenses when we have people living in mould infested shitholes or on the streets? Add to that the massive influx of migrants that undermine people's confidence and sense of culture and stability, the manipulative evil that is social media, compensation culture, the boiling resentment that seems to fester for the most trivial offences against sensibilities, and you've got a recipe for disaster. There's too many of us and rats in a cage will eventually attack each other.

Most civil wars take place within relatively poorer societies. Early contributions to the study of violence within societies tended to focus on economic deprivation and grievances as key motives. Look what's going down in Haiti. The veneer of social order is easily cracked when the forces behind it are hell bent on hate and destruction. Perhaps this new hate crime law will see an end to those who think it's ok to try to ruin lives via social media and other on line platforms, the core of nasty fucks whose sole aim it is to sow discord via race baiting and all other associated 'phobics'.

Most of us just want to live happily alongside each other but you'll always have an element that won't do that - from Islamic hate preachers, to petulant ranting trans idiots to woke ideologists disrupting our lives. Let's see if these new laws will deal harshly with those fools.

Court rulings after the actual Civil War have made it quite clear that there will never be a voluntary secession by any state. There is no "referendum" that would make it possible..

But I agree that another civil war is unlikely unless some sort of demagogue comes to power amd tramples the constitution and forces other people in the government to try to remove him with force. That's how these things often kick off..

That's probably more of a revolution than a civil war. Although the two are very similar..

Same could happen in the US, but because we already have states and state governments there would be two choices.

Overthrow what ever government is in power and try to form a new one, or just leave and leave them to it.

Its like a marriage that is falling apart . Do you try to fix it  and force the couple to stay together, or do you let them go their separate ways?

The latter isn't a legal option in the US. All of us are litterly stuck together "until death do us part:..

In the UK there was the Riots kicked off by some British "black" person (mixed race Irish - Caribbean) who was peddling drugs or something was killed by London police (Mark Duggan).  That was the 2011 England Riots.   Youth ran amok looting and burning down shops.  Not a revolution but rather a free for all looting - sort of what seemed to have happened during the mostly peaceful BLM protests in the United States.

Riots are different. We've had those forever. An actual civil war requires a bit more than a bunch of unhappy miscreants.

It requires a loathing for the government by a significant and influential portion of the population and a feeling that the ballot box won't make any changes.

If you look at our Civil War, we had state legislatures leading the call to secede, not just a bunch of unhappy kids trying to steal some new shoes..

Many people are bored, boredom and resentment can and does cause rioting...add in greed, getting something for nothing, a corrupt government and police force....and there is a recipe for rampaging through the streets.

The gap between the haves and the have nots is all too obvious now, thanks to the media and the internet.

Revolutions are generally started by riots, whereas civil war requires organisation on both sides.   If one side is organised and the other side is disorganized then it is more an exercise in oppression.  Today the agents of disorganization among anti-establishment groupings is strong and there is probably a science behind it.

How exactly will this civil war be fought then?

The government disarmed the British public back in the 90's. Just so it could never happen. At least with America the civilian population has access to weapons even though Obama tried to buy up all the bullets because he couldn't ban confiscate the citizens firearms.

What peaceful protests are you on about...the BLM ones where they set fire to cities and looted?

You're a fucking idiot if that's the case.

I'm talking about the people who are pissed off at what the democrats are trying to do with the 2024 election and the country.

These people aren't angry because some black criminal was murdered.

 Grins in Vietnamese. 😎

Smiles in Pashto. 😎

The whole scenario is highly unlikely, but remember in a civil war there are usually two governments and two militaries.

And in our case tens off millions of heavily armed civilians making the stew even that more rich and complex. 😳

When the militarised police go into your neighbourhood to take your guns are you personally going to start shooting cops?
Just one neighbourhood at a time...
Then the armoured cars and the helicopters arrive and this is without any military.
Absolute bloodbath and chaos with one side highly trained and the law on their side and no doubt the media the other ... a fucking panicking unorganised shambles...
Utter fucking nonsense.
