Why? because after a bloody awful summer, the temperatures are set to rise...for 2 days. lol

You can't make it up! giggle

This expected scorching heatwave we have been promised (or warned about) is now predicted to be 23c for tomorrow, cloudy with some  sun.

Not sure how you will fare down South...better slather on the sun cream and hide under the bed for a couple of days. scruffy

Nope going to be 23 which I prefer.  Chilly with rain today and tomorrow.

Imagine how broken this country would be without the intelligence services and the brave men who join up and train to be SAS!
The country would be overrun with foreigners with foreign ways!
Foreigners who hate our ways and wish to destroy us and as has happened all over the world all through history impose their foreign Gods and temples upon us. Therefore be thankful for those who protect us day and night from such enemies!

The 1700 prisoners this new government have released early from prison, to make space for the much lesser offenders who have rioted, is already a disaster.
One prisoner who was released early was immediately charged with rape, hundreds others have not been tagged, which was one of the conditions of their release.

This floundering government are blaming the company they gave the contract to for the tagging devices...buck passing as usual.

Starmer is looking like a rabbit caught in the headlights as he is facing ridicule over him accepting freebies (and not declaring them) to kit him and his wife out with expensive clothes, festival tickets, and even spectacles.

Most politicians are hypocrites, do as I say not as I do etc....we know it, they know that we know it, and that's just the way it is.
But there is something about Starmer that really, really grates.

His grinning face that almost morphs into gurning as he squirms, the condescending voice and false air of sympathy whilst he sticks the knife in the old and the less fortunate. I truly can't stand the man, and I can't remember feeling this level of distaste about a politician...(well maybe Abbott and Corbyn, but they were inconsequential really)

"UK government borrowing sharply overshot expectations in August, pushing public debt to 100 per cent of GDP and delivering a blow to chancellor Rachel Reeves as she prepares for her first Budget next month.

The public sector borrowed £13.7bn, the highest August shortfall since 2021, as government spending grew more quickly than expected, according to the Office for National Statistics."

Sounds like us.

Well, not that bad.

But you don't want to catch us in this category.

I don't know which is the more insulting to the people, the fact they take gifts in exchange for favours, or the fact that even grabbing all the freebies on offer, they still both look like they shop at Primark.ragga

"Sir Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner will no longer accept donations to pay for clothing"

The PM came under fire after accepting work clothing donations worth £16,200, and multiple pairs of glasses, to the value of £2,485.

The gifts, from prominent Labour donor Lord Alli, were not initially declared in the register of MPs' interests.

Sir Keir approached the parliamentary authorities on Tuesday to make a late declaration after being given updated advice on what needed to be registered.

Meanwhile, Ms Rayner has accepted clothing donations worth around £2,200.

 And yet...

Chancellor Rachel Reeves is still expected to press ahead with her plan to cut the winter fuel payment for millions of pensioners despite being handed a £10 billion budget boost by the Bank of England.

Well yeah, your debt is worse than they expected.

Cuts somewhere are the responsible thing to do.

Unlike my worthless government.

"Citing data from the Treasury Department, Apollo’s Torsten Sløk says the US government is now spending an average of $3 billion in interest expenses every 24 hours."

You don't want to get to the point where you throw 3 billion away every day for the interest on money you borrowed years ago..

 The amounts are eye watering.

God knows what state our so-called wealthy countries will be in when our grandkids are the main breadwinners.

Something is definitely going to break.

And when it does, it will be the party/person holding the nation's credit card at the time that gets blamed..

Not all of the predecessors that ran it up in years past..

It's that depressing, I could only get half way through.

How can either country arise above the mess they are in when the best we can get to lead us are the likes of what we have, with no one half decent to challenge them?

More than 10,000 boat people have arrived here illegally since Starmer was elected, record breaking numbers.

One of the biggest problems we have (it touched on it in the article) is education. We were usually ranked near the top decades ago. I think we're like 25th now.

Poorly educated people are not good in democracies because they can't/won't select the correct candidates even when available.

There's an old saying something to the effect that "the government isn't going to educate you in a manner that teaches you to challenge it"..

Regarding education statistics, I think it depends on where you look.

I dove a little deeper into that article. That's sort of a survey ranking.

When you test our kids we are a little above average in reading and below average in math.

The testing is what should matter..
