I think it may be a good idea for youngster who have left education, and men and women, say under 40, who are not working full time.
There would obviously be exceptions for mothers etc.

Apart from getting people fit and disciplined, we are going to need soldiers when the unthinkable happens, and the way the world is going now, the unthinkable will possibly be the inevitable in the not so distant future.

Who said if you want peace then prepare for war?
Si vis pacem, para bellum (Classical Latin: [siː wiːs ˈpaːkɛ̃ ˈparaː ˈbɛllʊ̃]) is a Latin adage translated as "If you want peace, prepare for war." The phrase is adapted from a statement found in Roman author Publius Flavius Vegetius Renatus's tract Dē Rē Mīlitārī (fourth or fifth century AD), in which the actual phrasing is Igitur quī dēsīderat pācem, præparet bellum ("Therefore let him who desires peace prepare for war").[1][2] The idea which it conveys also appears in earlier works such as Plato's Nomoi (Laws).[3][4] The phrase presents the insight that the conditions of peace are often preserved by a readiness to make war to defend said peace when the need arises.[5]

So much of the world right now is at war or preparing for it possibly on a bigger scale than anytime in my life.
The worlds leaders have led us to where they always seem to end up leading us.

Why exceptions for mothers and not fathers?

Conscription isn't brought in to get people fit and disciplined. It's to send them to another part of the world to die. Why can't you go? you can be trained to fire a rifle. You can be cannon fodder just like anybody else. You've lived your life why send an 18 year old to die when your nearing the end of yours anyway?

all you have to do is try kill as many of them before they kill you and you give someones child a chance to live. Maybe you should watch some videos on youtube of the Ukrainians using drones to hunt down and kill russian soldiers and then read the comments from the left praying that Kamala wins so she can keep funding the war. Obviously afraid that Trump the war monger will refuse to send billions more of Americans tax dollars to defend a country on the otherside of the world.

Children need mothers more than fathers.

Yes, I know exactly what conscription is and why it was practiced here once, and still is in 80 other countries.

The fact is people who fight for their country need to be fit. Unfortunately many of the young of today are fat and unfit, if the worse case scenario never happens, at least some good will have come of it.

What would your solution be if suddenly we were dragged into a war and under attack in our own country?
