Hamas’ youngest hostages, Kfir and Ariel Bibas, 2 and 5, and their mother are dead and their bodies will be returned to Israel this week, the terror group said in a ghoulish announcement Tuesday.

Imagine ignoring Foreign Office warnings not to travel to Iran because of the risk of "arrest, detention and a death sentence". Then once you get there, you go to a region that you were warned was particularly dangerous and start asking the locals questions for some survey you were carrying out.

What could possibly go wrong?

We have an American that just got arrested going into Russia.

What is it with these people?

Unless you have good reason to go there, it does seem a bit oddball to visit countries where imprisonment or death are a possibility.

The Brit couple were on a motorcycle holiday and could easily have bypassed Iran. They came across as thinking they were invincible by saying things like 'you only live once' - and seemed ignorant of the dangers.

That 'only living once' may turn out to be a bit shorter than they were expecting.

So, they get to fifty odd and still have no common sense?   No sympathy from me.

Gene Hackman, his wife and their dog, all found dead. Waiting for more news but police say foul play not suspected. No doubt full details will emerge, but in the meantime it has me wondering what the cause could have been - accidental deaths? Suicide? If not 'foul play' what else is possible?

The bodies are partly mummified.  So been there a good while.  Looks like suicide.

If suicide, why are they in separate rooms? You would want to go together, next to  eachother.

Why kill one dog, not all 3?

it doesn't make sense.

That's what one of his daughter's said.  Thing is she shut.the dog who died, in a cupboard.  Pills all over the bathroom floor.

I wonder did he fall, he was in the mud room, whatever that is, she was grieved and took pills.  It happened weeks ago.

Wouldn't you think the daughter would have rung in that time?

Or,  maybe they wasn't close. 🤔

It's sad they died in separate rooms, it would have been nice for them to go together.

Mind you, she was too young to die, early 60's, decades younger than her husband.

I always thought if a film had Gene Hackman in it, it would be a good film, he was a great actor.

It looks like they've ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning, and now treating the deaths as 'suspicious' while still ruling out 'foul play'. I think that's pointing towards suicide.

It's tragic whatever happened. Hackman had a good innings but the wife had plenty of time left so I really hope it wasn't foul play. Carbon monoxide poisoning did seem like the obvious reason. I truly hope it wasn't suicide.

I thought it was DIY Dignitas at first as he's getting on for 100, but just killing one dog out of three makes it seem a bit strange. Unless the dog died by accident, eating pills off the floor or something.

I don't see the point in Dignitas or waiting for assisted dying bills, when you can just do it yourself in the comfort of your own home, maybe Gene thought the same, and his wife wanted to go with him.

The downside of that is that you may traumatise the person who finds you, or be found mummified or crawling with maggots.

I suppose you could send a delayed email to the authorities letting them know what you have done, then if you change your mind or the suicide doesn't work, just cancel the email before it sends

BB: At least you’d know (or at least hope) that there would be no mishaps, you’d go painlessly and it would be final. How many poor souls have attempted suicide themselves and “failed” leaving themselves with even more medical problems.

I hope I’m never in that position where life was just too painful and there was no hope but if I was I would approach Dignitas to pass away “comfortably” and completely.

“ Caroline Darian, the daughter of Dominique and Gisèle Pelicot, is pressing charges against her father, accusing him of drugging and raping her - something he has always denied.”  https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c0mwllzzyxlo

“Pelicot filmed the rapes of his wife, collecting hundreds of videos he neatly catalogued on a hard disk.

Among them were also two photos of his daughter, in which Ms Darian, 46, says she is clearly unconscious, sleeping in an unfamiliar position and wearing underwear she doesn't recognise.

Dominique Pelicot has offered conflicting explanations for the photos, but has always denied sexually assaulting his daughter.“

My first thought…what if her body had been treated by strangers like her mother’s. Horrific thought I know.

Puzzling outcome for the Hackman incident.

Both deaths put down to natural causes according to the medical examiner, but dying several days apart

"It is likely that Arakawa died first on the 11 February, Jarrell concludes, and it is "reasonable to conclude" that Hackman died on 18 February."

Strange.

Strange.

Actor Gene Hackman died of heart disease a week after his wife Betsy Arakawa died of a rare infectious disease at their home, a pathologist has said.

Two-time Oscar winner Hackman, 95, was likely at home alone with the body of his wife for a week before he passed away himself, the sheriff of Santa Fe in New Mexico, US, told a press conference on Friday.

The post-mortem examination showed Ms Arakawa, also known as Betsy Hackman, 65, died of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome – a rare but potentially fatal disease which spreads to humans through infected rodent droppings or saliva.
