From what I can gather it's not as simple as that. Something to do with genetics and bloodlines rather than actual lizards

I saw him do a more recent interview with Andrew Neil. He was asked did he still believe the Queen and other royals were shape shifting lizards, he did say it was more complicated, but he also said 'Yes' he still believes they are.
I'm sure in his mind he reaches that conclusion through a complicated web .... but I think it's the main reason he was considered a bit of a nutter back then.
