I always have a glass of wine with my tea...pre-op appointment today, have been told I am drinking too much.
I have one glass a day, never hardly touch spirits or beer... I really don't think a couple of bottles of wine a week (max) is overdoing it.
Do others drink much?
Most people drink too much.
The only safe amount is zero.
I'm not ready to do that myself..🍸
But inflammation is likely the root of your OA and alcohol leads to inflammation. It doesn't really matter what others do. You have a predisposition to a certain problem..Just like someone born with Type 1 diabetes..
A bottle of wine 750ml, is the equivalent to 6 small glasses of wine, 125mg....though nowadays the larger 250mg is more often sold in pubs/restaurants.
A bottle of whisky holds approx the same...or 32 pub measures.
I don't think a bottle of spirits a month is a lot, more or less a small scotch a day....and I don't think 2 bottles of wine a week is a lot either.
I doubt I will cut it down.

Inflammation is not the root of my OA.
And the interview was a standard one for anyone having major surgery no matter for what condition.
"Inflammation is a central feature of OA, contributing to its pain, joint damage, and progression. Understanding the mechanisms and consequences of inflammation in OA is essential for developing effective treatments and managing the disease."
This is all very basic and common knowledge. Inflammation makes it worse..
You should probably listen to your doctor instead of anecdotal evidence..
Or dont.
It's your body and your life. That's what I tell folks who ride bikes without helmets.
In fact, I'll do it at times. I just am honest about the risk..
Oh I am honest with myself.
I don't think for one minute it's a healthier option to drink than to not drink. Do I think giving a glass of wine with food up so I might live a couple of years longer is worth it....definitely not.
Life is to be enjoyed, and that includes a bit of what you fancy on a regular basis.

There you go. That's an informed decision weighing the benefits and the risks..

That's all any of us can do .
I think that's what we all do anyway, the key is to do things that, in our own opinions, balance the good with the bad.

As long as you know the good from the bad.
Unfortunately, many people don't seem to know the difference and they keep their doctors busy.

I don't know what my Dr's look like.
Apart from OA, and the very odd blip, I have been extremely lucky so far with health. I can't take the credi.
I put it down to good luck, good genes, and not being overly careless with health.
