Tonight. Big pan of stew on the stove. Stewing steak, potatoes, carrots, onions, oxo, salt, black pepper, all in a pan, cook for 5 hours, one of the simplest meals and great to warm you up on a cold miserable day.
What is oxo?.
Its a beef stock cube, mix it with water or meat juices...in this case 2 cups of water, it thickens up to give a rich gravy.
Hot buttered wholemeal organic Duchy bread toasted with butter and marmite. Oh, heaven. That bread is from Waitrose and it's the only bread I can eat that doesn't make me ill.

Oxo is loaded with msg. Horrible stuff.
You didn't taste my stew, it was delicious.
I eat healthily, not deliberately, I just like foods that are considered to be good...I can afford to waver now and again.
Really? MSG is considered safe unless you exceed 2 or 3 grams a day. How much is in an oxo cube?
Well, that would be all well and good if all you ever ate was one OXO cube. When you research into how much food contains msg, then you'll realise how much you are actually likely to ingest.
If I eat too much of it, I get a raging thirst and a headache. A friend of mine can't touch it as all her fingers swell up and it makes her joints hurt.

I have never tried it, or ready mixed sauces, I don't like small of them would rather make my own up.
Making your own stock would be boiling bones for hours. I've done that when I have time, but it's easier to buy stock already made, and it tastes better than adding water to cubes.
Sundays chicken again with lentils but this time it is a chicken korma and very very nice it is.
Lots of coriander seed and cardamom and just a little curry paste.
Onions garlic yoghurt cream sultanas dates creamed coconut bananas... yes in the right proportions it's not a fruit salad.

That's basically dehydrated food..
I meant I don't like the 'smell' of them.
Yes, making your own stock takes ages, that's why I don't mind using a cube or two,
Brown the meat (pork loin). Cook the holy Trinity (onion, celery, bell pepper) with garlic and a jalapeño. Throw it all in the insta-pot with the dried beans, spices, stock and let her rip.

I do a similar recipe, can use diced chicken or pork, add onion, tomato, mushrooms, red pepper, garlic, little olive oil to cook, then white wine, and sometimes cream...just stir it all in. Usually serve it with pasta.

Its a pressure cooker.
Those beans (or a roast) would take hours without it..
Reckon some of you would do well on Masterchef. I like Maddogs photos - I think he would do well on Youtube preparing dishes if he were so inclined. Although maybe that opportunity has passed given the number of people doing that sort of thing nowadays.
