Should celebs stay out of politics?

More and more A list stars, in entertainment and sport, both here and abroad, are speaking out about politics. The Oscars and Grammys are often used as a  platform for celebrities to make speeches about what's happening in the world and giving their opinions on how to right the wrongs.

Do they have the right to use their position to sway people, or should they stick to what they do best?

The latest was Man City boss Pep Guardiola.

" Pep Guardiola launched into an extraordinary monologue on global humanitarian issues before Manchester City attempt to reach the Carabao Cup final.

In a remarkable press conference, the City boss criticised the Trump administration after the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by ICE agents in Minneapolis, having earlier had his say on the wars in Ukraine, Gaza and Sudan.

'Look what happened in the United States of America, Renee Good and (intensive care nurse) Alex Pretti have been killed,' the 55-year-old said when asked what was behind his decision to speak up on political issues.

'Imagine the NHS, five six people around him, go on the grass and 10 shots. Tell me how you can defend that?'

Back in 2020, Ricky Gervais made a hilariously controversial opening speech when he hosted the Golden Globes. The stiff laughter from the audience is lovely to behold.lol

He makes a point that celebs are not here to talk about world affairs. 7.20 in......

Someone posted this on X.  It cuts to the chase, in spite being peppered with swear words.   Celebs like Billy Eilish are enough to make you indulge in profanities.

That fucking insufferable cunt

couldn't keep her smug mouth shut for one goddamn second at the Grammys. More brain dead propaganda from a rich girl who's never had to deal with real consequences. This green haired window licking retard, privileged cunt struts around in designer shit, living on "stolen land" she loves to whine about, then has the balls to lecture the entire country on borders while ICE tries to clean up the mess her kind of open border cheerleading helped create. I fucking despise her fake ass tears, her performative "activism," the way she laps up applause from a room full of millionaire hypocrites, get this overrated attention starved bitch cancelled and shipped off to whatever echo chamber spawned her worthless opinions. What a pathetic, virtue signalling piece of garbage. This spoiled brat milks every platform for clout, pushing the same recycled leftist trash. She ignores raped women, murdered citizens, and wrecked communities all while she hides behind her mansion walls and cries about empathy she doesn't actually feel. I fucking hate her whiny voice, her fake outrage, her entire existence as a walking hypocrisy machine...someone needs to tell this talentless hack to shut the fuck up. Just shut the fuck up retard, nobody cares what you think

What's truly insufferable is their hypocrisy and their utter lack of grounding in the real world.

I love Ricky!

Celebs getting involved in politics by using their fame, can get very annoying, especially if they do it while they are supposed to be entertaining you.

Most seem to be left leaning, and it makes me dislike them almost instantly when they start coming out with all that luvvie tripe. People like Lineker, Benedict Cumberbatch, Emma Watson etc

That's just it, they don't live in the real world and if booted into it they wouldn't survive for very long.

They live in a bubble, surrounded by bum-lickers and like-minded vacuous wannabes. They truly believe their own publicity.  When they're waiting for a bus at 6am, rain-sodden to the bone and freezing, with a 12hr shift ahead of them, when they have to decide to heat or eat, when they have undocumented immigrants harassing and destroying their safety and quality of life...maybe then, just maybe then I'll listen to what they have to say until then they can just feck off.

They should, but you have the "silence is violence" crowd chastising them when they do..

Sidney Sweeney caught hell a few days ago because she is doing exactly what Dolly does. She refuses to go there..

So what did Sweeney do the same as Dolly?

She is not that well known here, though more so recently because she is in a film recently released that is based on a very popular book...The Housemaid.

Harsh....buy it is annoying when young pampered kids start preaching to people 2 or 3 times their own age,  people who have actually lived a real life.

I cannot abide anyone who self proclaims to be an 'activist' - it's almost as precious as referring to yourself as an 'influencer'

Emma Watson turning up at award ceremonies, with an activist as her plus one - it was trendier and far more luvvie to have an activist on your arm, than it was the latest Hermes handbag.

Cumberbatch's grovelling apology after he was left 'devastated' for referring to black actors as 'coloured' instead of the woke term of the day 'people of colour'

She told an interviewer that she doesn't discuss politics..

“I’ve never been here to talk about politics. I’ve always been here to make art, so this is just not a conversation I want to be at the forefront of,” Sweeney said. “And I think because of that, people want to take it even further and use me as their own pawn. But it’s somebody else assigning something to me, and I can’t control that.”

I hate it when people apologise profusely when they have not bent down to the woke brigade enough.

Richard Madeley was corrected, and apologised live on air, for referring to Sam Smith as 'him' instead of 'they'.

People can call themselves what they want, but expecting everyone else to use the terms they demand, is ridiculous imo.

 One would think.

Unfortunately, that's not how it works anymore..

Why bring up Sweeney and Dolly (Parton?) other than your interest in women with big tits? Syl was talking about celebs who make speeches about politics, not the ones who don't...

Maybe people pay more attention when a celeb speaks out (or gives reasons why they don't) if they admire them in some way.

Generally, I think many broadcast their opinions because they are jumping on bandwaggons, want to appear 'woke', like the sound of their own voice etc, but now and again, some talk about what they know and can change things.

Joanna Lumley has campaigned for years and helped the rights of retired Gurkhas who fought for the British to settle here,if they wanted .
Marcus Rashford campaigned for free school dinners in the holidays for kids who came from deprived families.

Both had experience of what they were talking about, and both helped change government policies.

BREAKING: Sinai Law, the leading eviction firm in Los Angeles County, is now providing pro bono services to the Tongva Tribe to remove Billie Eilish from her $14 million LA home, claiming that her admission of living on stolen land gives the tribe a legal right to the property. “Eilish's admission that she lives on stolen land gives the tribe a rightful action for possession as the true owner of the property. The 30-day notice is already written and ready to be served.”
