Seems to be on the rise. These days Incels or Toxic males seem to be either some dorky type who wears cabbagey trousers and acne, or musclebound freaks to hit their faces with hammers.
Psychological profile of the incel/toxic male:
Son of successful conservative parents His parents ignore him throughout his entire childhood.
Their way of showing affection is to give him everything he asks for.
The boy turns into a despot He reaches adolescence and starts to like girls The girls he likes (the most beautiful ones) show no interest and reject him
Despotic boy encounters "no" and frustration for the first time in his life,
He starts to hate women and demands that society change for him rather than changing his own behavior
Since he doesn't handle social norms well, he assumes it's because "he's not attractive," as the only thing he focuses on in a woman is her physical appearance
Here they split into two groups: the incel who manages to gain physical attractiveness and the one who doesn't The second ends up single his entire life; the first starts chaining relationships for validation.
He cheats on every girl he's with and ends up only dating submissive girls who let him get away with everything.
Since those girls don't pose a challenge for him, he starts romanticizing extremely attractive girls Every time he faces this frustration, his hatred toward women increases exponentially

I'm glad I am old. People were so much less complicated back in the day.
I know. What the hell went wrong? Social media for one.
Social media and the breakdown in family life. Over the last 2 generations, loads of kids have grown up without a steady male presence in their lives and a mother who is either working or glued to social media herself.
Plus womens lib demeaned a lot of men; they didn't like it when women were seen to have the upper hand. Though in truth, the women of our generation were brought up by strong independent women anyway. They had to be because of WW2.
I don't think it's ever been acceptable to slap your wife. My dad didn't...albeit he left when I was young, but I know he never laid a hand on my mum. As far as I know, none of my friends' fathers hit their wives. I only knew of one wife beater, who was born in the 40's....and he was considered a thug to hit his wife.
In any case, Connery was pushing 60 when he made those comments, so even if he had grown up amongst that sort of violence, he was old enough to have learnt it was wrong. To say it, defend it and repeat it, shows he was just a bullying arsehole.

Totally wrong imo. Like you Syl,my dad never touched my mum or me. He would have hit a man had they laid hands on her or me.

Men who hit women are weak, nasty and a bully!
I'm sure men hitting their wives did go on, and I know police used to refer to it as a 'domestic' and tend not to get involved.
But I grew up in a pretty rough area of Salford in the 50s and 60s...and like I said, there was only one man in the area who was known to hit his wife, and he was shunned by all the neighbours. It certainly was not widespread.
To know if men slapped their wives, all you have to do is look how it was portrayed in old movies. It wasn't seen as a problem decades ago, nor is it seen as a problem today in certain cultures..
But Sean should have known better by the time he did that interview.
