It really does amaze me that intelligent women accept the foul abuse dished out by some inadequate troll on a forum....all they are doing is giving the inadequate a cheap thrill by allowing them to talk to the woman like trash.

Nowt as queer as folk though, specially forum folk.

Women were more abusive to me personally I have to concede, far far more.
But that's just my personal experience.

When you say "you women" I can only speak for myself Syl, the same reason as you when you have been previously insulted.
The opinion of my detractors is irrelevant. I don't know them. Ergo I don't care what they say.
And like you, I spend time with my partner and also spend time on forums. I post on here often in the early hours when he is working a night shift or when I am unable to sleep.
However alot of long time forumers are single and actually see forums as a place to form relationships, serious or casual. I was ignorant of this st one time but certainly had my eyes opened!
I actually meant to type why do THE women stick around ...speaking generally.
I have never really humoured any man on a forum by playing their games of listening to the insults and replying to them.
I may give an answer and move on, or I may ignore them, but I dont flatter their wilting ego's by sparring with them endlessly.
I must say that the truly vile posters are few and far between. Most of them are on Dogs and I dont post there, one on NF, and none are members here.

I go missing for a day and the place fills up with Pseudo psychologists making their judgements on others which is quite common on social media.
If people don't behave like they do outside of social media they are totally demonized.
Many people want social media to be nothing more than a group of penpals.

I find Budgie just crude and try to ignore him - although he sometimes appears in threads I read or am trying to engage in. The thing is he seems to be talking amongst a group of people who seem to know him well - Legengary, some of the ladies, some of the men - some of whom know him in real life - talking of or alluding to real life experiences. Since I don't know any of them I just categorise Budgie as "crude and laddish" and the other people that engage with him as "people that know him". I don't really want to "know" any forum member especially not in real life - that is far too scary a proposition. I only came to Dogs to moan about Digital Spy, engage with fellow Digital Spy moaners about Digital Spy, and then I drifted over to see what the Dogs community had to say on issues such as politics and trans people.

One of the things I learned about Dogs is that many of the forum members have known each other for up to 20 years including in real life. So much of their discussion relates to shared moments and personal issues - which I just try to avoid as i don't know any of it and don't want to know. But I do pick up on the crude nature of the interation and that they know each other.

I don't understand the first part of your sentence - this is either an assumption or a claim to knowledge of other posters.

Your use of the emojo is an expression of you as a person.

That I come here to moan about Dogs is the same reason why I went to Dogs to moan about Digital Spy - moderation doesn't allow certain discussions to be had. And I only learnt about Dogs because one or two Forum Members on Digital Spy advertised it. And I only learnt about CM because Forum Members on Dogs were referring to it.

When you go out in the great big world you often find people talking about other people that are talking about other people year in year out. I have to conclude that people are genetically programmed to talk about other people that are talking about other people that are talking about other people. I have examined the sociology of chickens and it may have something to do with formation of pecking orders but I cannot be sure.

One problem is those long ago fights get distorted, exaggerated, lied about and taken out of context, which is why some people may move from one forum to another but they can never shake off the reputation they acquired, either fairly or unfairly, somewhere else.

I think social media in general is definitely causing mental health issues.
