My grandson was dressing up as some swashbuckling character for Comic con last year, he needed long leather boots for his costume. I saw a pair of used riding boots (his size) on e bay...as he was only going to wear them once I thought they would be great....cost about £25 with p&p.
When they arrived, as soon as I got them out the box they felt brittle....when gs tried them on they literally disintegrated and fell to bits.
Lesson learned..be very careful when buying used goods on ebay.
I have the baby for a double sleepover. This 2nd day hasn't gone very well. Woke up to a soggy bed as her nappy leaked. Not to worry I thought got the waterproof cover on. Only I didn't, as took it off due to that hot spell its only three mths old as well. I hate stained mattress. Will steam it tomorrow when I get home and sleep on the sofa. Meanwhile, just gave it a wash then put the fan on it, now got the waterproof on it till I can sort it.
She decided to bathe in yoghurt and bum cream and the bum cream is bright pink on my brand new cream rug.
Left her doing crafts while I sorted everything out to find she had paint stamped my living room carpet rather than the paper or cover I left everything on.
When I sigh and Say "oh ****** (her name, not a swear word) she gives a huge grin and says "sorry nanny"
Got all three for a double sleepover next week, oh my life.
Ahhhh yes….the joys of looking after the grandkids.
There is more. I dont know if I should sob or laugh. I have no need to worry about pee stains on the mattress any more
While I was cooking her dinner. I left her with a snack and a drink watching pepa pig in the bedroom. I had removed the zip up non waterproof mattress cover and the duvet and put them in the wash. Put another duvet ready to go on at the bottom of the bed.
She come out to me and showed me pure black hands I went to see what she had and it was boot polish*, and she had spread it around my bed and the clean duvet and covers. I washed her hands then sent her out the garden to play with her sand and water pit. then went to try to rescue the mattress. while I was doing that she came in with a bowl of mud from the garden plants as I went to grab her as it was dripping everywhere, I fell off the bed onto my knee and just lay there defeated She came and hugged me and said are you Ok nanny.
So this week will be scrubbing and sorting and making the bedroom as safe as I thought it already was.
* she had pulled the heavy toy box over to the shelves and got my shoe cleaning kit down.

My God - the worst thing I ever did as a kid was choke silently behind the sofa/settee on a boiled sweet and quietly die for about 4 minutes until Grandma (RIP) found me revived me and sorted it out with a finger down the throat.
But that was the War generation - they knew how to act.
I often wonder if she made the right choice as well.

Simple. You, you're the threads. But me, I'm the rope.
The next episode was me and nothing to do with her. I put the waterproof on the bed no sign of boot polish then got the just washed duvet that had been nowhere near any polish onto the bed to put the cover on when I started to notice black splodges, and they were getting worse and my hands were covered. my brain could not work it out, all I had touched was the duvet and her milk bottle. I looked at the milk bottle and see black over it took it to the kitchen to get another and see my pile of paper towels that I had used to wipe most of the polish off sitting on the draining board where the bottle had been draining.
Well that was an adventure I could have done without.
At least next week her sisters will be here as well, and they will tattle on anything she tries to do phew!
oh and as I was talking to her about it all she just stared at my face like in a trance, I said what's up poppet, she pointed at my face, I looked in the mirror and my face was smothered in it as well. hahahaha

I bet if we went back in time you did more than that.
Me and my brother painted the whole Kitchin bright blue with gloss paint. cooker, fridge, table chairs,
I will never forget this last two days. it will get funnier as the days go on but now looking at my lovely white pillow topped mattress that I had protected for every visited be trashed well words failed even me hahaha
You just forget don't you, her sisters are 4 and 5 years older, so I had relaxed and suddenly misremembered 2yo being angels .
I have 3 days to sort and make it safer before they all descend on me
I didn't have a close relationship with either of my Grandmothers.
"Sit on yer arses and shut yer faces"
Was how one of them used to greet me and my brother when we visited her.
I was not close to my own grandparents. So its lovely to have a relationship with my own. Its lovely being so loved, and they are so relaxed around me
if i went to visit my own nan, would have to sit up straight and not move, even to breath
Yes we had a adventure this last two days that I could have done without but its something to laugh about with them when they are a little older.
at least my mattress is well and truly broken in and I no longer have to worry about the kids making a mess of it
Yes it will be something to have a giggle over but the whole episode sounded like a nightmare you can't wake up from. I wasn't close to my grandparents either, mine were my great aunt and uncle who had no children. They were like my parents and auntie was great fun.
