The longer the passage of time the funnier these things get.
It's lovely reading of Smithy's 'adventures' and everyone else's comments too.
I remember my maternal gran...but she seemed very old and quiet and died when I was young. My own mum was a great nan to my son, and lived log enough to be a playful great nan to my grandson.
My own experience of being a nan has brought probably the happiest times in my life. This is the first year we have not managed a holiday with grandson in all of his 22 years.
Last month we went to watch him get his Masters degree at York uni, and I can honestly say it was the proudest moment of my life.
Walking down Holderness road today - some dumb fuckwit off his tits on drugs and naked from the waist down was trying to intimidate people by staggering up and 'shooting' them with his finger in their faces - I said to the huge gambling security guard after he tried it on with me - 'what a wanker' - and he was.

Sounds amazing. I'm as proud as punch when they do something in infants school can't imagine how I would be grinning at something like that
I can honestly say being a nan is so much nicer than being a mum and I loved being a mum.
My eldest one is only 16 so I've a way to go yet, but he like his parents and siblings are all in the acting/drama profession and travel the world. He (the eldest) is managing to keep it together with his performances even though he is going through a awful rebellion period so can't be easy for him as the performance he does with his mum at the moment is very intimate and a lot of trust is needed from both of them. Can't be easy for either of them.
Speaking of uni, yesterday my great niece was offered an apprenticeship as a scientist for oncology, only one out of almost 500 applicants.
Both my son and my grt niece are the only children in our family to go to uni, most of us didn't even finish school, so to say we are all shocked is an understatement.

Well done to your niece, that's quite an achievement.
Grandson is the first one in our close family to go to uni, he got his masters in Bio Medical Science....I dont even know what that is ….though he does try to educate me a bit, and it is incredibly interesting, he is concentrating in bladder cancer.
Your kids and grandson must be successful in the acting profession if they get to travel the world, I know it has to be the most competitive business to be noticed in. Do you get to see them on the telly or are they more in theatre? it must bring lots of great opportunities their way, though hard for one as young as 16.
I agree with you that being a nan is the best thing, it's not that you love your kids less than your grandkids, that impossible, but I just think you appreciate them more because you have more time, possibly more energy too, and of course, like I always say, you can give them back at the end of the day (well sometimes)

Its performance art. They are not famous outside of their own field. I have been to a few performances in Scotland and when they come to London I go and see them. At the moment my DIL and eldest grandson are over Oz and NZ
All 4 of the children are into performance art. My son works with someone with special needs who has problem communicating on cue so much of it he has to be improvised if the lad isnt in a talking mood. It works very well. They have done a few things together now.
