Haha....brilliant. And for all the lack of everything kids take for granted nowadays, us kids back in the day were free to play out, had loads of actual friends not virtual ones, and bulimia, anorexia, self harming and kids suffering from stress were unheard of too.

It's not brilliant, it's just typical of the bigoted ignorance you read on the internet, but admittedly a recurring theme.

The illnesses you listed were unheard of in your world because it was not the done thing to talk about them. And look at the number of historic abuse cases only recently coming to light because society in general didn't want to listen at the time. Sorry, but you and many others in their middle age are trying to revive their own youth with a fantasy of how wonderful life was at the time - I lived it too and the reality didn't correspond to the illusions that people seem to have. And as for the belief that modern teenagers have it easy and are effectively useless is part of the same blinkered blindness - they don't and they aren't.

Oh, get over yourself you miserable twat.  wank

By that do you mean you disagree with what I said?

Disagree with what?     Nobody said kids today have it easy.

They did. It's the opening line of your first post here!

I didn't write it, you fool.   It's a post that's doing the rounds on FB. wank

Hmm.. maybe one us is sounding like a fool then.

Being self aware is a very good thing...

Sense of humour failure?? I think it was written tongue in cheek, but the writer makes some good points too.

I agree that pre internet people in general were deprived of knowledge of what was happening further afield, but in my experience of growing up in a big city there were very few anorexic kids and even less obese ones around. Obviously with some eating disorders they are harder to spot, but stress in youngsters, which is usually at the bottom of most self harm, was not evident either.

One reason is kids had simpler lives, so far less complications, they also didn't live their lives online, social media was a thing of the future, and all modern evidence points to social media as being one of the main causes of kids feeling unhappy or 'less than' their peers..

I think many modern teenagers are brilliant, I have 2 grandkids who have grown up to be caring, responsible, intelligent human beings, as are millions of others in their age group.

I agree Syl. We lived carefree lives. Now everything is like competition. You're judged by what you wear. Kids have to have this or that as they're left out.

In our days there wasn't all these designer labels, must haves, etc. I had new dress and shoes to wear Sundays.. My Sunday best they were called, I'm sure you and others will remember that. Other days we wore our playing out clothes, and we had FUN.
