Well after talking to my friend recently,  I'm going to isolate with my hub.  We just go and sort the garden, needs fences painting etc ready for summer. Sure we won't get bored.

You can all talk to me on here and read my bullshit - surely that will make the decade worthwhile! lol

You wont get bored if you accept this is how it's going to be The sooner people do start isolating ...or if they are not in the at risk groups, social distancing, the less people will die and the sooner the world will get back to some normality.

Suicides will shoot through the roof. Mentally vulnerable people who are very much alone in their lives anyway and their only link to normality was a cup of tea in the local cafe will be feeling bereft

Cabin fever causes loss of perspective in even the most mentally healthy people. Loneliness is a real threat to people's mental stability. The appropriate charities are aware of this and reaching out but there is bound to be some fatalities.

Obesity is also a major health issues in the UK especially amongst children. Now they can't leave their homes or physically see their friends they will get bored, sulky and eat more sugar laden treats given to them by harassed sleep deprived parents.

I think after this crisis is all done and dusted people will become more socially aware.  China's population had to wear masks and couldn't see for the pollution caused  smog before this pandemic. That should never have been allowed to continue. The virus originated in China I believe. We are actually lucky as a nation something of this scale hasn't occurred before .

I predict a massive baby boom in nine months time outnumbering the number of deaths due to coronavirus.

I agree that mentally a lot of people wont fare well....but if the virus has to be beaten by people isolating from friends and family, there is no choice.

Thank the selfish bastards who ignored all the government advice....because of them advice has now turned into orders sooner than it might have done.

What sane person would want to bring a baby into this present mess?

There are no guarantees that this will be over in 9 months.

The poster may sadly be right. Boredom will be rife. I hope not though!

But I agree 9 months is an optimistic estimate. It will be over a year. Our lives have changed dramatically and it isn't apparent to all yet which is natural.  Their comfort zone and  freedoms have been rudely stolen from their grasp and that will take time to process.

Can you imagine three short months ago, if you were told that this was on the way....this disaster movie scenario that has become reality,  even in the wildest imagination, no one would have believed this could happen.

It's like a plot line from a Stephen King novel.

And the unsettling reality leaves you feeling surreal , like it's somehow not quite real. This isn't the way things are supposed to be.

Except enforced isolation and considering our own mortality is the reality now,  and all we can do is hope for the best.

Exactly. If we follow the advice/orders that people who know more than us are giving out, all we can do is hope for the best.

No way should this thing be underplayed, but at the end of the day we are still here, hopefully when this thing passes  the world will get back to some normality. I imagine when it does it'll be a bit like after the two world wars. Many lives will have been lost and many people will have to start over from scratch.

Previous generations were sent to fight wars, many people now think being told sit on their arses in comfort whilst watching telly and stuffing their faces is some sort of incredible hardship.
