Seems more people are not bothering to self isolate as much as they have been doing.
A substantial rise in people are using their cars....do they think the worst is over?
It's just beginning. Charts show we are heading in exactly the same way as the other very hard hit countries like Italy, Spain and France.
Younger people are dying, medics are dying, and most of the people who are in hospital on ventilators are not going to pull through.
It's a very depressing day....stay safe if you can.

This is why Countries like ours can't do long prolonged lockdowns. Like China for example. Completely different Country, completely different people. Countries like ours can't even do 3 bloody weeks properly. Let's be optimistic though and hope the vast majority will still do at least 3 weeks properly.

There are a minority of selfish pricks who still can't get it into their skulls that a few weeks at home to save other's lives is hardly an act of heroism.
As for China on the news earlier it was going on about the West's frustration with China how they are trying to shift the blame with propaganda and the fact that the may have under reported the real figures by a staggering factor of 40!
I suspect we will never know and I am also highly suspicious of Russia and Japan as well - perhaps Japan deliberately underplayed things so the Olympics could go ahead?
Or is that me being cynical again?

I reckon you're right about China and that. Even with the fact its a totally different Country to the likes of ours. There are what 1 billion people in China. Its highly unlikely there numbers are correct.
Well after talking to my friend recently, I'm going to isolate with my hub. We just go and sort the garden, needs fences painting etc ready for summer. Sure we won't get bored.
You can all talk to me on here and read my bullshit - surely that will make the decade worthwhile!
Re Brits cant do a sustained lockdown like people in China, who are far more 'obedient' to authority.
Statistics show that the majority of people are only going out when necessary. There will always be an element of self entitled idiots who think they are above the law,....no matter that they are putting others at risk and making the lockdown longer than it need be in the long run.
Laws should get tougher, this is a matter of life and death for hundreds of thousands of people.

And Brits are more obedient than Americans. The power of one group of people, to control another, has limits in a free society.

I think both countries have this dichotmy at work.
The rugged individualism in the US tempered with this puritannical conservative streak
And the Brits who, historically have often led the way in progressing democracy with magna carta and the peasants revolt, still cling to that serf mentality.

I think it's more self preservation that obedience.
None of us (with a brain) want to die and none of us want to put others at risk. It stands to reason the best way to ensure both is to stay away from others as much as we can till this can be managed better.

I think attitudes have changed over the past couple of weeks. It's become more real and even for people like me, who aren't particlarly alarmed about catching it, are realising that it's as much about not being a danger to others.

I hope you are right, but as the stats yesterday showed that there had been an increase in people travelling by car, and as there is a police road block locally to stop cars driving up to a local beauty spot......not everyone is as thoughtful as you are.

Same here, I am not worried for myself but for other people and I was very blase about it all at first after so many media health scares which turned out to be virtually nothing.
As for China many times the reported figures could well be right - they claim to be having the odd death here and there and I call bullshit on the 3318 'total', Italy has almost 14,000 deaths already, Spain will be overtaking them at the rate they are going and God knows where the US will end up.
China and Russia are fooling no one.

People engage in all manner of risky behavior that endangers themselves and others.
That's why the police still arrest people for driving under the influence.
In a free society, you will always have those that look at risks differently.

True, but the vast majority of people don't want to die and neither do they want to be the cause of some innocents death.

I agree somewhat. A free society always will have inherent risks because it's free. It seems to me that at the moment people want some magic bullet against risk which doesn't exist and never has.
Also risk can be a fairly subjective area depending on the individual.

As Jefferson said, he prefers "the dangerous seas of liberty, over the calm seas of despotisim" or something to that effect.
