It’s good news that Boris is now recovering from this... perhaps now he will give nurses a decent pay rise instead of wanting it capped!
Nurses salary will be £24,900 2020/21. They had a 6.5% pay rise in 2018. BUT can you ever pay them enough. What are they worth. I've always thought they get far too little compared to Doctors. They work harder than many Doctors in my view. But know less. Who should get the most those who work harder or those who train longer and known more.
Speaking of wages. What really pisses me off is footballers not taking a 30% pay cut during this crisis. The money many of them are on is absolutely ridiculous!

Yes, over 3 years..... Boris voted against lifting the 1% cap though in 2017.... maybe now he’ll view things differently and they can hope for more than just a round of applause!

Lots of things are out of proportion when it comes to what people are really worth and always have been. As I said personally I'd cut the wages of Consultants and Doctors down a tad. And give more to the Nurses.

You want to pay doctors less?????????????????????????????????????????
Maybe you should start with the highly paid non-medical staff in the NHS before going after doctors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good point. Consultants could cope with a tad less though. The money gained from that could go to the Nurses.
Its more a discussion about what are people really worth. Footballers definitely aren't worth their wages.
Should refuse collectors get more? What about cleaners. Keeping things clean is more vital than ever right now.

People attack the US system as being expensive. It is. One reason is that we pay healthcare professionals a pretty good wage.
Your system definitely has its merits.
It'll never happen over here though not in any way. To an extent too many people have a fantastical idea of the NHS. No matter how high the demand becomes on the NHS, they still expect it to always have enough money coming in. And they don't want to look at any alternative ways of financing it.

Hi gabby, good to see you.
This whole wage inequality thing is ridiculous, and while I think nurses are underpaid and undervalued, I think anyone who drags there arse out of bed day after day and puts in a good days work should have a wage they can live on comfortably. They should be entitled to that.

All essential workers who go above & beyond to help keep things going, and especially frontline health workers, have always been worth their weight in gold.
These days though, there’s also a ripple effect to the essential services they supply: Can you imagine the fear their families must feel, every time their loved one goes to work?

For sure. I should be paid a fortune I look after animals.
Just kidding.
Many people live beyond their means though. They would be living in relative comfort and luxury if they didn't push the boat out so often. I'm afraid many people want, want, want, and they want it right now!! Rather than wait some time. I sound old now.. ah well.

I get what you're saying, but on the other hand if you spend the majority of your time slogging away, you probably want to have some kind of reward at the end of the day rather than living hand to mouth, never able to treat onesself. There's a fine line there I know but that's something to consider.

My cousin is a health worker (30 years) and her daughter just qualified as a nurse last year.
I don't think in a million years she ever thought this would happen in her first few months as a fully qualified nurse.
Worrying time Vam and especially when you read about all these shortages of essential equipment.
That's my dad's sisters daughter and granddaughter, she was a nurse as well.
Things get any worse and she might be getting a phone call to go back to work.
