It's tragic that a 16 year old boy has been found dead on the beach trying to cross over from France.
Whatever their age, they must be truly desperate to take such risks..
No, they try to cross the channel in a small inflatable dinghy, using spades for oars for fun....silly me.
Most of them are young. When you're young you don't think about risks in the same way an older person does. These people don't think they're going to die. Just like they think our streets are paved with gold.

Compared to where they have been they are.
Is there enough Gold to go around?
The anon before also does make a reasonable point. I wonder how many of those who aim to cross The English Channel, think better of that and stay in France instead.

I don't think that's always the case. Many of them go home when they discover it's not a bed of roses here. If their lives were that bad, they'd settle in the first civilised country they hit. Why do think they won't stay in France?
I should imagine very few do due to the treatment they receive , we treat people, be they illegal or not far more humanely, should we not?
I don't know the answer, treat illegals like vermin so they wont strive to get here maybe?
As it stands now each case is looked at individually and if the illegal is entitled to claim asylum they will be housed and fed.
Treatment should be good.
It might sound harsh but ultimately its a numbers game.
Can you always continually take-in forevermore whoever wants to come over here to the UK? Do numbers never matter?
Everything has its limits. Go too far and standards in all kinds of areas in society will start to drop.
We have a massive recession here, thousands made jobless and potentially homeless. Where are they going to go? We can't keep taking in every waif and stray from the whole of the third world.
There was a documentary on not so long ago that followed the progress of illegal migrants. The ones allowed to stay soon got fed up, and one guy who brought his family here from Syria went back because he said he would not bring his daughters up in a country with such lax morals. So much for being desperate to get away from Syria.

What I don't understand is if they are so desperate why do they travel through so many safe European countries just to get here?

I definitely think reasons to allow someone to stay here once they have been accessed should be stricter. If each case is looked at individually as claimed, we should send back anyone who does not have a seriously valid reason for leaving their country of origin, and just looking for a better pay packet shouldn't be the reason.
But in the interim of them arriving here and either accepted or not, they should be treated like human beings, and it seems some countries, France included, are not as humane in the treatment as we are. For eg, who benefits from throwing illegal entrants into prison for a year?
We need to make a camp for them that is suitable warm and dry not just a mess of tents like France there are those small home things or container home ( they could also do this for the homeless ) there are a huge amount of unused containers throughout the world.
it has to be a camp of some kind because as it is now people are just vanishing into the country and not seen again and we have no idea who they are or what their intentions are. Most of these people are healthy young men, no country will survive all it's young leaving. so asylum ( if they are true asylum seekers) given asylum but Illegals have to be sent back and as soon as they are processed and make the prosses faster so these people are not in limbo. If they are allowed to stay then they need to be put all over the UK not just certain places as is happening now.
What we should not be doing is putting them in luxury hotels ( see below link) 48.00 illegal immigrants in 4-star hotels while we have so many homeless and workers having to go to foodbanks we are having our own crises and need to say enough. I went to Dover 20 years ago as it was a favourite place to visit as a child. it was horrendous with homeless young men in gangs just hanging around everywhere a beautiful quaint place destroyed, that was 20 years ago I can't imagine what it's like now.
the luxury hotel ( sorry for who's video it is but sometimes the truth comes from the people you don't like)

I have watched a few videos of these people coming over and the ones I have seen are not scared or desperate they are healthy young men who look like they just stepped out of the army they swagger and wink at the camera and film crew. That really made me feel uneasy and I'm someone who has always welcomed immigration I am a leftie or was
There are so many of these videos they are not just a dingy here and there its like a busy road most of the dingy are motorised, far removed from what most people believe they are arriving in. Where are they getting the dingy from? my bet is the French government the french navy actually escort them halfway over. As proved by Nigel Farage That was what got me looking my brother shared it and I rolled my eyes and watched ready to point out the flaws and I couldn't so I watched more of them its crazy what is going on. Most people believe its a mixed bag men women children but the women and children are rare as are the older men. mainstream media only show the women and children.
Why are we letting more and more here when we cannot house and feed the people we already have. it makes no sense apparently it's the same all over Europe I read many comments on the twitter one I think where people are saying its the same here and saying where they are.
Anyway sorry for the rambling, what is going on is making me very uneasy. I never believed it I always turned my face away from what the right was saying but now I do.
Well thought out post, not rambling at all.
Obviously some news is designed to be biased on one side or the other. It's up to people to do their own research from various sources if they want to see a balanced view of what's really happening.
Really enjoying the latest series of Wentworth but who the hell cast the posh British girl character?
As if hardened criminals would take any notice of the whining little woke bitch!
Compared to everyone else on the series she is utterly appalling and an awful wooden 'actress' - perhaps she slept with someone in charge or filled a quota, no other explanation makes sense.
Anyway (however implausible) I am so glad The Big Bad has cheated death, you don't get many scenes like this for women and Pamela is simply wonderful in the role.
A scene from old series proves it.

People should be wary about clicking on these face book pages or any other FB pages. They can be used to find you on FB. If you click on these pages. FB will start sending you similar group pages and then you will start showing up in the people you may know section. Which they can then check out your FB home page and bingo you've been doxed.
It might be an idea to remove any reference to FB from this thread. Better to err on the side of caution.
