Yeah I saw that last week - great vid and the bloke really kept his cool!

I would have thrown rocks about 6 minutes earlier.  That's some pretty weird behavior for a cougar.

In my opinion she was torn between protecting her cubs and fear of humans becuase when big cats go in for the kill there is none of the snarling and extravagant body gestures - it's silent and lightening quick.

I think she was just trying to scare him and it was a very happy outcome for both.

No doubt she was trying to scare him off. Most animals will do that. But not for 6 minutes, They get the threat moving in the other direction and then go back to their young.

Its not like he had one of her cubs.

That was fascinating to watch, it's good he wasn't tempted to run.
I wondered why he didn't pick up a couple of rocks and throw them in her direction, but then again, when he was bent down she could have ran at him and attacked.

He did throw a rock at the end.

He said every time he bent over to grab one, she charged.  He did everything right and 99.9% of the time they run off after a few seconds of bluffing, as long as you heed their warning.

Most mamas will defend their young but also not leave them that far away from them either.

Was he walking backwards? I dont see how he could have held the camera and record everything if he wasn't.

Oh  yeah. Turning your back would be a bad idea. He was walking backyards.

He was lucky then that he didn't trip, that rocky road looked lethal even for someone walking forwards.
