Actually anon I'm not going to bother to answer any of your recent posts. What difference is it actually going to make. There is actually no point.
Imo the Cummings thing has run its course its quickly getting fuck arse boring. What you or I think really doesn't make any difference in the scheme of things.
Cumming's gave a detailed statement. He faced the largely bias arrogant baying for blood media representatives. People will either like what he had to say on the matter. Think fair enough. Or think he should resign.
The fact is he's not going anywhere unless the PM says so. And the PM isn't due to fight a GE anytime soon.
Good lad. You can’t really defend the indefensible.
Does anyone really believe he drove to Barnard castle (round trip of 60 miles) to test that his eyesight would be ok to undertake the drive back to London?

Seeing as you ask a very specific question I'll reply although I am genuinely bored of the Cummings saga now.
He's obviously a key worker/essential worker. And at that point was told by a medic he could go back to work. If I'd been out on my feet for a few days. I'd want to test how I was doing physically.
Look on google their is stuff around about covids potential effects on the eyes. Its not beyond the realms of possibility.

Not for a nano second.
Reasoning.
He of all people must have been aware re LOCKDOWN rules. He flouted them by driving 30 miles up and 30 miles back 60 miles. He got out and enjoyed at least 15 minutes with his family by the river.
If his eyes were so bad, why put the public at risk by driving?
DRIVING TEST EYE TEST - Read a road legal registration plate at xxx meters with or without glasses as appropriate.
I've just seen someone on the telly asking if they drive a 60 mile round trip to see if they will faint as he is on a diet and fasting as he does this one day a week and just wants to see if he can drive the 260 miles to his home in Cardiff. He is also bit worried that he broke his glasses and made some at home and want to try this out on a public road as well - is that ok, JP?

No.
John Wilson's letter to Greg Smith, Conservative MP for Buckingham - I expect many will feel exactly the same and suffered under the same tragic circumstances.

Simple. You, you're the threads. But me, I'm the rope.
There were no 'exceptions' in the rules at that time regarding going into a Hospital in that situation. As far as I'm aware at least. I never heard any.
But I have heard Child welfare exceptions. Jenny the DMO spoke of those on March 24th in the daily briefing for example.
Who's fault is that. I guess medical experts decided those Hospital rules at that time.
I'm with JP although politically I think we are poles apart. I have no time for the bigoted Tory party because they care more about lining their own pockets than ensuring the security of the electorate.
I'm sick of ppl trying to dissect his story and attempting to make him a scapegoat. No doubt he didn't follow the rules to the letter and white lies were told here and there. But for once he was acting like a father and a human being not a defective cyborg. He said he regretted how people may perceive him now and appreciated why they may think him a hypocrite.
He was worried about his child's health. Parents don't act rationally when their children could be unwell. I think parents will be able to identify with his feelings in that concern, no matter what they say. However I think he should have said sorry. By apologising and being humble I honestly think ppl would have been inclined to have been more forgiving. He has made himself look a little arrogant by refusing to apologise but then again, he doesn't see he has committed any illegal act. The problem is sometimes an apology is warranted so a situation can move on, he could of apologised about how his actions has made the public feel at least, not about his own personal actions if that is honestly how he views it.
However it's becoming a Witchhunt and ppl really need to let it go, except hey won't. As he is not a sympathetic character, people will rake him over the coals for this. The British public do tend to become a mob when feeling powerless.
He was in the wrong but he was a scared father at the time. I think life is hard enough right now and we don't need a person to torment to make ourselves feel good. Seeing a crowd taunting him outside his house and hearing an item thrown his way is just so predictable. Now they are as low as they thinks he is..because social distancing wasn't being observed. The irony of it , we all make mistakes when emotion replaces logic. Who knew.

I'm not an angry person but reading this letter and the way Cummings behaved today and possibly afterwards, IECovid press briefing delayed as he was schooling Boris what to say - had made me more angry and if I did not live so far from London and we were not in lockdown, I'd go down to his house and give him a verbal of how he broke the law and sees the public as idiots.

Fasting? Its their personal choice. And a stupid one if you ask me. Totally different circumstances. No Child involved.
Made some glasses. What are their qualifications? Do they know how to make a good pair of effective glasses? They sound like a right plonker.

Boris wasn't late he was always due at 7 today. Cummings was late. May be Boris was schooling him today.
Hopefully you'd social distance properly if you decide to visit his family house. What 'law' was broken? Links please. Show me exactly how he broke the 'law'.

Just to make this clear to those who need every minuscule detail explained over and over. I haven't allowed you into my property that's not allowed right now. There are no exceptional circumstances at play here right now.
He didn't apologise directly for the specific action he took. I wouldn't either not if I believed it was the right judgement at that time for my family, my Child. I wouldn't apologise for that. But he did show some general regret regarding some aspects of the situation. I don't think it was illegal either. I want to see direct proof of that.

That explains why he was so godawful and bumbled about.

You haven't allowed me on your property? Well, ok. I think it's the wrong choice but you will think with your head not your heart
I agree with most of your last paragraph and it also made sense to me so that was good :lesson: I suspect it might of been illegal because the wife had symptoms so she wasn't meant to leave the property. Digger was right, it's faux outrage.
if serious heartbreaking crimes are receiving zero media coverage just because the nation are dribbling over taunting one bloke we have the Government we deserve.
It can be draining debating about politics online , don't let it drain your batteries.

This letter almost made me cry. It is accounts like this, where ppl were unable to comfort their dying spouse that have forced me to totally disagree with my prior viewpoint. He will have no alternative but to resign.
He made these rules and threatened police action if they were not adhered to. Why couldn't this gentleman visit his wife once in ppe like the nurses attending her? That way there was no risk he would pass it on. This will have destroyed the poor man and somehow he has to learn to live again despite the overwhelming despair engulfing him.
Yet Cummings didnt even offer an apology to people like this gentleman. People who followed all the regulations he created that he didn't bother to follow himself. He probably thought he had nothing to apologise for and will have read many letters like the one above. That is the mentality of someone who has no regard for the feelings of others. I've gone from being sympathetic to the media onslaught he has endured to being disgusted at the man.
I do think the media are overdoing it and risking portraying him as the harassed victim. So the venom should cease and his resignation should calmly be requested everyday. He has forced upon ppl the most abject pain and such is his arrogance and weakness he refuses to apologise for any part of it.
The media need to stop the Witchhunt but make it clear to the hapless PM his advisor is no longer welcome in Government. And if Boris truly can't govern without him, let the chips fall where they may.
On another note, him and Boris are supposedly good friends as well as work colleagues.
He can see that the flak is rising, it's undoing the good that this government has done so far and destroying the reputation of the PM and others.
If he had any integrity at all, even if he is unrepentant at breaking the rules and has no intention of apologising....he would resign.
DC says the media lied and wanting people to think they are after him. Had it not been for the media, this creep would have still be lol 24/7 at joe public as the majority stick to the rules and people could not even visit their sick family, friends or their funerals. Re eye tests, easy way to do that as per driving test, read a number plate at 20 mts if you can't, licence withdrawn. Simples.
If he had doubts about his eye sight ( and that sounds like an excuse quickly thought up to cover his bank holiday family jaunt) he shouldn't have even gotten behind the wheel of his car.
Does he have a few drinks then drive around just to see if he is sober enough?
