The old South Park meme about deciding between a douche bag and a turd sandwich springs to mind. Political leaders, especially Us political leaders are so out of touch, mired in this neo liberal/cultural marxist fog either accepting it totally or being labelled nazi for daring to question aspects of it that it's made the idea of a moderate position untenable. Trump got in because the left have become so divorced from their original liberal values that there is no viable alternative. Trump isn't a cause he's a symptom of how polarised politics has become. Sadly we seem to be going the same way.

Watching the latest Trump rally I think his supporters are encapsulated in the one scene below.

They believe in anything, they laugh at anything and at everything he says no matter how willfully ignorant, no wonder his base is mostly people who give their hard earned money to multi-millionaire Televangelists with huge mansions and a fleet of incredibly expensive cars who do not believe in science or even evolution but that Baby Jebus will save them when they are decaying bone and offal.

Isn't Maddog who is a member here from the bible belt?? Are you saying he is a brain damaged dumb fuck because of mass inbreeding??? Would you be ok with someone making an offensive and sweeping statement like that about where you come from???

If anyone has watched the 4 part documentary 'Being Hilary' on TV recently, it shows that in some parts of the states, and especially the so called Bible Belt, the more despicable Trump was in his campaign to become president, the more people supported him.
The more that came out about his appalling attitude towards women, the more women voted for him.

I dont know if in-breeding or religion had anything to do with it, but it certainly is a mystery.

Yeah I was well out of order - just watching all his supporters hanging onto his every lying word made me so angry.

I would delete it but as posters have already quoted it there is no point.

Two people have objected to the post, so as it offends some, and you have yourself had second thoughts, it'll be deleted.
JD, try to remember that words can often offend.

This is very interesting it's by a "woke" liberal.

When the whole world's media is pushing hate on someone you really should look deeper.  Media could make Jesus christ himself look demonic.

I am a liberal like the man in the video who has seen the bigger picture, how we are all being manipulated    Huge organisations ran by the elite using minorities as shields.  You cannot criticise BLM  or you are racist, you cannot criticise the LGBQ movement or you are phobic etc  So good people are shut down.    I've looked at the bigger picture of Trump, yes he has said some silly things but remember he is not a politician he is a businessman and very rich one who speaks his mind.   When you look deeper he has a huge black following but media never show that. He has millions of highly intelligent supporters media only let the uneducated speak. Only those who refuse to look deeper still call Trump an idiot, a racist a psychopath etc.  They are ignorant of the true facts.

If anyone remembers the three televised debates between Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump when they were campaigning for the presidential vote, no one made Trump look demonic then, he managed that all by himself.
No one was behind him pulling the strings, reporting 'fake news' about him, manipulating his words and demeaner.....that was ALL him.

There is a reason he stopped appearing at the daily pandemic briefings - his team knew that more and more people could see he was an ignorant, boorish, petulant manchild.

Remembering him storming off?

Like toddler who had been refused an ice cream. lol

Trump won quite a few states from well outside of the Bible Belt. He did so by getting votes from people that had voted for Obama twice. Take that for what it's worth.

I'll admit that his more stringent supporters can appear kooky at times, but his less vocal supporters are out there. The question is how many can the dementia suffering fool win back from the orange crazy man?

And can Jo Jorgenson (a PhD) get on the debate stage and make those two old men look like fools?

JD really needs to worry a little less about Trump though. It's not healthy for him. wink

I am watching people walk away from the dem party all the time.  there is even a #walkaway  movement.

This Facebook group is full of people saying whey they are walking away.  Contrary to what JD believes  they all seem pretty much on the ball and sane to me

Dear Maddog, how divided is the United States?   Is there any likelihood that we could see states seceding from the union in the near to medium future?   The picture we get of the USA is of marches, riots, overturning statues, racism, violence, racism, trillion dollar deficits, racism.

I was alive in the late 60s but too young to remember. Based on history, I see a lot of parallels between now and then ( minus the high profile assassinations).

We are very divided.  We are very frustrated. The racism mantra is used to divide us and its effective. I don't think we are more racist than a European country. I think our history with slavery on our soil makes the racial arguments more effective. It stifles discussion. As a white male I know if I want peace in my life, I know to agree with race baiters or ignore them.  Engaging with them is a waste of time.

As for what's going to happen? Beats me.  Let's just say if there was a vote today for Texas to secede I'd vote in favor.
