I don't think people who have never been oppressed can ever understand what it feels like to be abused just because of the colour of their skin. Nor do I understand why white people decided one skin colour, their own, was superior to another.

The word " Purr" was still used to label and demean long after the second world war had finished. Jamaicans fought in the war considering themselves British, risking their lives for the "mother country". Yet when they tried to live in England they were abused physically and mentally, routinely called all the horrible names we know all too well. We are not as bad as the USA but nor is "Great" Britain innocent.

Sorry for long post but I think there are too many short memories. I think black people have a right not to walk past statues that glorify slavery, and all types of language with racist connotations should not be tolerated. These people can be found in history books, they are not bring eradicated.

Britain should welcome the chance to get rid of these celebrations of oppression.

The biggest bigot I ever met was black (at university), he was a walking talking stereotype of the very worst kind, a big fat thug, a bully, a thief, who did not wash and his nails were long and filthy but his arrogant contempt for white people was quite astonishing and disturbing, he idolised Tyson (until Douglas kicked his arse) and got his hair cut in exactly the same way just to look intimidating.
