We have been promised a rare nice day in Manchester today....so far it's overcast and spitting with rain.
Fingers crossed the 25c promised will materialise before nightfall.

Yeah, not been the best July has it Syl ... thank goodness for weekly top ups with ‘Skinny Tan’
Personally I think travelling abroad at this time simply for pleasure is too big a gamble to take. I know the travel companies are trying to tempt people back, but at what cost?
I know I've said it before. And it may be a simplistic reply.
But there are no great answers to be suggested by anyone. Any decision made will always have some adverse consequences for a number of people.
Everyone just has to live with it. What else can you do.
Exactly. You cant ignore the mental health problems associated with isolating a social species, or the economic factors when everything, including the government functions better with a working economy. Then you have the mental health factors of people losing businesses.
Just staying home and riding this out is not really a healthy or viable option for many. Someone has to keep the wheels greased.
I agree, it's actually a luxury to be able to stay at home if that's what you choose.
I would have been lost without internet ordering and food delivery service. The thought of having to rely on family to run around after me wouldn't have been a choice I would have liked to make., I am usually the one helping out others.
I think it's been difficult for many to accept help.

I used the word privileged a while back to describe a few government workers I know. Pissed them off but it's because it's true. It's a privilege to have the same paycheck deposited into your account every week, regardless of this pandemic. They stay home and the biggest loss they feel is a lack of socialization, which is significant but not like loss of income. There are people in all walks of life not making as much, and are working in industries that require people to get out of their home and buy things. These people have a much different look on this.
I'll post something from a buddy of mine and his Brewery.
"Today is a dark day here at The Hop.
Today we say goodbye to half of our staff, which we have had to lay off due to Governor Abbott’s arbitrary and, we believe, predatory decision to ONLY close bars and brewery taprooms in this second shutdown. Eight of our people and their families have been pushed unfairly into unemployment and an uncertain future because of his decision.
This may not sound like a lot to an economy that has lost millions. But to us, the deep regret and pain we feel is just as vast.
Since March 18, we have been forcibly closed a total of over 3 months. From the start, we risked even the future of the brewery to keep our staff employed. During this second arbitrary shutdown of just bars & brewery taprooms, we watch from our empty taproom as restaurants and especially their bars are filled, some with little regard for social distancing. The truth is this second shutdown is unfair to our industry, our customers and our staff. Those forced to make it on just to-go sales are severely hampered, because there are so many other choices available now for people to socialize and drink in public.
When we were allowed to open for a brief time in June, we far exceeded CDC and state guidelines to protect our staff and customers. We stand ready to do the same again. We believe breweries can and did lead the way in this effort.
We appreciate those of you who have purchased beer-to-go from us! You were instrumental in allowing us to hold it together for this long. We used well over 100% of those sales and tips to provide for our employees. If you purchased our beer in any of our many retailers around Texas, thank you! All of you are our heroes.
So now, as we send our staff into an unknown that we share with them, we are forced to curtail our curbside beer-to-go days. Going forward we will be open for curbside beer-to-go Thursday through Saturday from noon-8pm."
I think it's a real shame how those who have the luxury of not having to make the choice of food or bills today feel it's ok to call others who need to make those choices selfish. People are dying, people's business are going down all because of COVID and not because they have COVID. they are saying more people have died because of COVID than who have had it, But the relatives of those people are told to be quiet don't you know there is a pandemic going on, people are dying from COVID shut the fuck up.
As someone else on this board asked if you turned your TV off and didn't read the papers etc would you know there was a pandemic? No, I would not, but I would know we are going into a recession due to all the boarded-up stores and businesses.
I'm going to say this out loud, this is BS. something strange is going on and it's not about a virus

If nobody had seen the news they wouldn't have taken the precautions they did - in which case it wouldn't have taken long before you'd have been well aware there was a pandemic going on around you.
