As someone else on this board asked if you turned your TV off and didn't read the papers etc would you know there was a pandemic? No, I would not, but I would know we are going into a recession due to all the boarded-up stores and businesses.
If nobody had seen the news they wouldn't have taken the precautions they did - in which case it wouldn't have taken long before you'd have been well aware there was a pandemic going on around you.
This.
The conspiracy theorists are always good for a laugh - like that fuckwit in Texas who went to a COVID-19 'party' because (like so many others in the US) he believed it was all a hoax and ended up dead at 30.

The COVID death rate without a vaccine is lower than flu deaths with a vaccine. Did we shut the world down for that? Its BS
No what you have just said is bullshit - total and utter bullshit.
Try reading a few medical journals, science sites or anything else instead of taking notice of some conspiracy nut in his pants spouting bollocks online.

I think it's a real shame how those who have the luxury of not having to make the choice of food or bills today feel it's ok to call others who need to make those choices selfish. People are dying, people's business are going down all because of COVID and not because they have COVID. they are saying more people have died because of COVID than who have had it, But the relatives of those people are told to be quiet don't you know there is a pandemic going on, people are dying from COVID shut the fuck up.

I'm going to say this out loud, this is BS. something strange is going on and it's not about a virus
I believe it's very real, but that the people least affected are often the most vocal about how others should handle this problem.
People do need to realise the Government can't hold the hands of 67 million people. They can't hold everyone's hands babying them every step of the way.
IF everyone does not do the right things. Keep distance, wear face coverings, wash hands regular. The facts are that this virus will once again spread and rise like wildfire! It takes huge numbers of people doing the right things to keep this thing at bay. It takes fairly small numbers of people doing the wrong things to make this thing kick off big time again. That's the precarious position we are all in.
It doesn't take a genius to know those above things. I'm fed up with people's stupidity. It isn't complicated. What your average everyday Joe needs to do everyday is not complicated.
The bullshit and bickering fired at the Government from the media, Labour and whoever regarding messaging is in my view making things worse for the people. STFU. Its not helping.
The basics are as simple as ABC to follow. Distance, masks, wash hands regular. Basically everyone has to do it for it to be truly effective. That's the crux of it. The authorities cannot hold the hands of 67 million people.
The authorities are working with an ever changing very fluid situation. People cannot be told every detail straight away and they cannot always have plenty of notice before any change is announced. It is just obvious.
Good job I'm not PM or any high profile Minister. I'd be saying how many more times do I have to repeat the same things, and in how many ways do I have to repeat them before you get these what are in fact very basic principles into your thick skulls!!

"Public Health England estimates that on average 17,000 people have died from the flu in England annually between 2014/15 and 2018/19. However, the yearly deaths vary widely from a high of 28,330 in 2014/15 to a low of 1,692 in 2018/19. Public Health England does not publish a mortality rate for the flu."

Depends what year you look at with flu. There's been a few extremely bad years over the decades. Very high numbers of deaths. Generally yeah flu isn't worse than covid19.
The only point I would say is that I hope the authorities and media realise one day they will have to stop reporting covid19 daily deaths. Because unfortunately someone will probably die of covid19 forever vaccine or not.
At least you don't need the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis to go to Filey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes I think it's going to be with us for a very long time, just as flu is....just as the common cold is, some viruses will never be eradicated, trying to control it is the best people can do.
Like you said, till a vaccine is found it's up to each individual to look after themselves and that way they will be looking after everyone else.
That isn't happening, I see it myself in my vicinity, which I imagine is just an average road filled with average people.
Some are doing the right thing, some think they are above it all.....hence the spike.
Anyway...back to the miserable summer. We have had one nice day in the last few weeks, that was Friday (I think, all the days get jumbled) temp was 31c in the afternoon, glorious. It lasted one day, back to wet and cloudy now.
Obviously not only the weather has made this summer the most miserable one I can remember. Latest research shows that Covid19 could possibly also have a lasting effect on hearing. Some who have recovered from the virus are now reporting hearing loss. and tinnitus.
Weatherwise....we (Manchester) have had a glorious day. Some cloud around, but at last the sun keeps managing to break through, temp 27c with a breeze. Beautiful. :sunny:
