We have had mandatory mask laws in Texas for a few weeks. I see 99% compliance as I'm out and about. Law enforcement isn't really enforcing them either. Its sort like wearing a shirt. It's just not socially acceptable to go grocery shopping without one.

Everywhere? Specific places? Public transport and every person entering a Hospital a few weeks ago. From today shops.

As I've said before I guess its a case of every little thing might help now. Even if masks don't have a large affect on the spread.

I think one problem in the UK is we were told for months that masks can cause more problems than they solve, and the complete about turn has rankled some people.

I dont know about how many people will refuse to wear them in shops, but I do know in the greater Manchester area quite a few bus drivers have been shouted at, abused and spat at when they have confronted none mask wearers.

Everywhere inside that the public would go.

Even in a restaurant. Everyone wears them until their drinks are served.

I saw one guy try to enter a Pho restaurant I was at without one they made him stay outside.

Advice from scientists around the World in fact, has changed a bit of late. Expected with a new virus. As you learn more you know what the best tactics are. Its not difficult for people to understand. They now think mask wearing ca help impede the spread of the virus.

UK Government really can't win much of the time. If they follow the UK expert advice and indeed advice about masks from elsewhere in the World. They are still wrong in some people's eyes. Also if they had made mask wearing mandatory a month or more ago, some people would say, why?? The science isn't clear masks do fuck all! No win situation.

Unfortunately arseholes will act like arseholes no matter what.

We were told the same thing.

Our politicians have the advantage of a second wave.  People are more inclined to listen when hospitalizations are going up.

In a weird twist, it appears that the heat may be causing the increase. People in hot states stay indoors during the day a lot. Like colder states do in the winter.

Outside appears to be very safe. Indoors, not so much.  We are  nowhere near the numbers the northern states have had, but we have rising numbers.  Hence the mask orders and closing of all the bars.

I personally feel a lot safer outdoors than being inside with people, I don't know whether the actual heat has any effect on the virus, like you say it may be the way people act in extreme temps that affects the figures....that's something I needn't worry about anyway.

This is interesting. Look at the map. There is pretty much a pattern. Almost all of the dark red is around the bottom area and up the right hand side.

Interesting those collection of 4 places with the lightest colour. Wyoming etc

That sorta follows the population numbers though. Wyoming has fewer people than the county I live in, and Texas has 254 counties.

Yeah, it's why people get sick so much in the winter. It's not the temperatures, it's all the proximity to other people. It's why flu season is in the winter. It's not because viruses like cooler weather.

It's also pretty common to hear people talk about "summer colds" in Texas. I've never had one, but they seem prevalent around here.

But I don't stay inside as much as most people.

I bet you would stay inside more if you lived in Manchester.

64f is OK if it's not accompanied by a cold wind or rain.
If it's sunny it can be very pleasant. Sadly the sun has been in short supply here this summer.

Yeah, that's a summer day in many parts of Colorado. But if you throw in rain, that makes it miserable.

I despise rain and dont have to deal with it like y'all do.
