Remember these tunes.    I was a bit of a clubber right up until I hit fifty.     Used to go to Creamfields with my brothers.   And we weren't the oldest in there by far.    One day you wake up and just don't have the energy for it.  But it was a great time.

I worked in clubs for a long time....starting in Tiffanys when I was 17....ending with Quaffers in my 30's...and some great ones in between.
Quaffers had some really good live music, but the dj,s in other clubs, plus the juke boxes, all had the best tunes.

I knew my clubbing days were coming to a close in the summer of 2007, I think it was.   I was on holiday with my brothers and their mates who were all hardened clubbers (I was single at the time) and my brother and his wife dragged me to Amnesia, a famous club on Ibiza.  I spent most of my time praying for the ice cannons to come on and watching the professional dancers on the podiums.  It was about a 100 degrees in there.  I remember it got to about 6am and my feet felt like they were nailed to the floor.   I remember thinking...."Fuck this!"  lollollol

Was Quaffers in  Bredbury?   I remember Jilly's on Oxford Road.  It changed names I think at some point, and I got asked to dance on a podium down there.  At least I think it was Jilly's.   I did it with great trepidation because I'd never done a club gig before  and got pestered to death by this 18 year old lad who thought I was the dog's bollocks and kept jumping up next to me to flail around.   Kept asking me for a date.  I was like....bugger off,  you're too young and you can't afford me! ragga

When me and hubby drive round Manchester I'm going...I've danced there...and there...and I remember that night, and oh look, I got a gig there.lol

Yes Quaffers was in Bredbury. I lived in Stockport then so it was handy.

Jillys was called Fagins previously, I remember seeing Scott Walker there when I was a young, we sat at a table about 4 feet away from the stage....those were the days.

Quaffers Bredbury Hall even!

Remember the pedal driven dentists drill on show in the entrance hall?

That belonged to me.

When I said Turncroft Lane I'm thinking of The Offerton Palace Theatre Club on the corner of Hall st and Turncroft Lane .... Beatles played there once.

Jack, Quaffers was off Stockport Rd in Bredbury. Bredbury Hall was a different club.

People would be dancing, suddenly told to clear the dancefloor, then the floor would rise like a phoenix and some famous star would be stood there with full band behind them it was quite an original idea back then.

The restaurant called the Firkin inn was in a separated building, but we could get from the club to the restaurant through some underground passageways....it could be spooky at 2am in the morning.

Did a little research. Doesn't appear like any of their songs ever charted here. I guess we missed that British invasion.

House music originated from the Chicago underground club culture in the 80s.  It was basically DJ's taking disco tracks and putting a heavier beat behind it.   It evolved in Britain into a more commercial sound.

I did go through about a one year period where I went to clubs and danced to Depeche Mode and the like.

I also probably did some damage to my brain with the stuff we took before going out.

It really wasn't me, but I had fun for a year or so dancing until 4 am then watching the sun come up somewhere.

This was my sort of music when I used to go clubbing.
Because I worked in clubs the places I went to opened when the 2am clubs closed...the clientelle was mainly other club people there was rarely any trouble.
