Thanks. Apparently she is still asymptomatic in terms of the Covid. She aspirated the other night, but that had nothing to do with Covid. They gave her a lot of oxygen and she recovered from that problem. She is still very week and not eating. And of course none of us can go see her. A nurse friend of mine went in there today to visit, FaceTime and try to feed her. She perked up when she saw our faces and heard our voices. She tried to speak but really couldn't.
In any event, she's not in pain, getting good care, and I'm taking it day by day. I'm the medical power of attorney so I may have to make a decision if she doesn't improve. But, outside of the doctor, who may get a punch in the fucking nose soon, all the medical folks I have visited with say leave her be for now. She's comfortable. She may regain some strength, or she may continue to slide.

Well everyone on here will be hoping she makes a strong recovery.
What's with the doctor - is he being a right pain in the arse?

He wants to move her out to a group home that takes covid positive patients. He says shes fine. Then he says she may need hospice as shes fading fast. Now he says shes OK again.
Long and short of it is he wants her out of the hospital.
My sister, who is maybe the only human that scares me because she can be so mean, told him my mother caught Covid in your fucking hospital and you'll treat her there until she is good to go to a regular home. 10 days after the positive test.
You mentioned she perked up when seeing your faces and hearing your voices. Maybe you could play tapes of your voices and tapes of her favorite songs. Maybe you have old tapes of her speaking with the family.

Good for your sister for putting him straight.

When my mum was in hospital near the end of her life, we were waiting for a specialised care home to take her...red tape was holding things up.
The hospital wanted to move my mum out to a holding care facility, which would have meant 2 moves in the last weeks of her life, I refused to allow them to release her.
I believe that was my right, not sure if the laws are the same where you are Maddog.

Good for you. I think in cases like this the relatives know what's best.
Yep. Sometimes I think Dr's, no matter how brilliant they are at their jobs, just don't see the human beings they are dealing with, they see a bed that can be used for the next person.
My mum lived to be 93 and she was lucky enough to hardly bother the NHS, I was damned if I was going to let them fob her off in the last weeks of her life.

Yeah, I'm medical power of attorney and they cant move her against my will. I'm not opposed to the move in theory, but I reviewed the places that will take a covid positive patient. They are shit holes. Her permanent home which is very nice will take her 10 days after the positive test.
Had she been in one of the temporary or rehabilitation places when she aspirated she would have died.
That's why we want her in the hospital until she can move into a quality place.

I think you are dead right.
Your mum is safer in hospital till her permanent home is ready to take her back. She is far better off in familiar surroundings with people she knows.
