So it's been decided...over Christmas three families can get together for five days, which means if you have three big families there could be 20 or more people in one house over the festive period.
Good idea or not?

Did they say anything about a lockdown after Syl?    I don't feel able to go through another lockdown just to get a Christmas.

I don't think they are thinking that far ahead yet.

They will soon be announcing what tier each area will be in after this present lockdown ends on Dec 2nd.

Thank you. I know they were saying that for each day they give us over Christmas will result in 5 days of lockdown.   Or maybe that was for unrestricted lockdown.  Can't keep up anymore TBH

No it's not a good idea and the scientists are not happy about it either as it could lead to a third bloody wave in the new year.

I definitely think there will be a third spike in January.

Would it have been better to carry on with the 'not mixing in homes' rule, sacrificing this Christmas for the sake of being nearer the pandemic end?

Alternatively, so many people are suffering because they have been isolated from parents, kids, grandkids, friends.

We haven't decided what to do yet. Normally we have family round all Christmas day then we go to them on boxing day......I really don't know what we will do this year.

 Some.. scientists are not happy.

I could point you in the direction of others who think different. About lockdowns etc etc

That's the thing here. With much of this it is a 50/50 situation. Opinions and views are split. Across experts and the public.

People who own small businesses and larger ones in fact, have their own concerns and views. Many people who are not in that position say keep things shut longer...

It goes on and on.

There are actually no right and perfect answers here not even close.

There is no decision that can be taken that doesn't create serious issues and consequences in one way, shape, or form. The CMO even said that. And anyone who thinks this through thoroughly will know that is right.

Clearly they wanted to make it legitimate over Christmas. Because they've heard many people say they will go ahead and do it anyway. I've heard that said by quite a number of people also. They do keep emphasizing that people do need to be very cautious and make a personal judgement when it comes to the elderly and already vulnerable. They've repeated that a few times already.

Also you had the Police saying if there was no Christmas dispensation they wouldn't be going round houses breaking people up. So all-in-all I think it's the right decision. Some people especially have just got to make some personal judgements though. Sure it isn't easy but this isn't easy far from it for anyone!

When do y'all start jabbing people with the vaccine? Do they have a tentative time line?

I did a little research. Y'all will be getting the Pfizer vaccine in about a week. You have 10 million doses which will treat 5 million people. The Oxford vaccine which is slightly different could be ready to go in a couple of weeks. There are millions of those ready to go to in the UK, as soon as the greenlight is given.

It also appears that there is a global system getting put in place to fly vaccines all over the planet in the coming weeks. So perhaps by Christmas we will finally be knocking the front teeth out of this bastard and sending it backpedaling. Not beaten but definitely weak in the knees.

I think it's 40 mill of Pfizer. 100 million Oxford so far. Probably not all for us. Seeing as it can be kept at room temp. And is cheaper to buy. 5 million of another vaccine also.

1. BioNTech/Pfizer for 40 million doses
2. Oxford/AstraZeneca for 100 million doses
3. Moderna for 5 million doses
4. GlaxoSmithKline and Sanofi Pasteur for 60 million doses
5. Novavax for 60 million doses
6. Janssen for 30 million doses
7. Valneva for 60 million doses

Just saw that^ Numbers 4 to 7 aren't very close to ready for checking to see if they can be approval yet. But they've been deemed as promising ones. That's how many we've bought right now. In total 355 million. Great news. If some or all are approved. Clearly gonna take a while to produce those numbers and to get them into millions and millions of arms though.

I wonder how many Countries have bought the Russian one. I noticed a couple have can't recall which Countries right now.

I think the 40 million is how many you have contracted to purchase but you have 10 million on hand.  NHS has been instructed to be ready to go Dec 1, which is ahead of us by at least a week.

Based on what I have read, the CDC hasn't decided if people like me will get the shot at all.

The dental practice where my DIL works will be on standby to administer the vaccine.
So I imagine there will be lots of different places apart from surgeries and clinics where people will be called to go.

Do you mean people who have/have had the virus already?

I think that would make sense.
