Strange I never had it before but just got a pop up telling me this place was unsafe!

 That sometimes happens for some reason.  Not to everyone.  It's never happened to me.  Clear your computer of trackers.

 It means the newest security updates haven't been installed. Because the owner who likes to try and impress his members with his IT skills. Can't update the forum to the latest version since about 2014.

And he has the cheek to call others idiots because they don't have the same point of view as him.

This site has an https prefix. Which means it's encrypted. If a site has http, it's not encrypted, and therefore potentially unsafe. Not that you'll get any malware or stuff like that...just that it's more open to being hacked.
